Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Grounds and Estates Operative to join our team. The post holder will be expected to undertake general horticultural and estate management duties across all Town Council Parks, Open Spaces, Cemeteries, Estates, Properties and Allotments, with the post holder being expected to work with minimum supervision when carrying out tasks. Previous experience in landscape maintenance or horticulture is desirable, along with familiarity with various tools and machinery. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about outdoor work and environmental maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular landscape maintenance including mowing, pruning, planting, and fertilising
- Operate power tools such as hedge trimmers, lawnmowers, and leaf blowers safely and efficiently
- Use hand tools for planting, digging, weeding, and general upkeep of garden beds and lawns
- Maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of all landscaped areas
- Operate machinery including excavators for larger landscaping or construction tasks
- Perform routine inspections of estate grounds to identify areas requiring repair or additional maintenance
- Undertake routine inspections i.e. goal post testing, headstone inspections.
- Carry out general estate maintenance tasks such as fencing repairs, path repairs, and debris clearance
- Ensure all work areas are kept clean and safe in accordance with health and safety regulations
Qualifications
- Prior experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, or horticulture is highly desirable
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
- Experience of working with the public
- Hold a full clean driving licence that is appropriate to operate a range of horticultural equipment such as ride-on and hand grass cutters.
- Good organisational skills with an eye for detail in maintaining outdoor environments
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in various weather conditions
- Relevant qualifications in horticulture or landscaping are a plus but not essential
