MAC Groundwork Contractors Ltd is a Staffordshire-based groundwork contractor specialising in the Sports & Leisure industry, installing play parks, Multi Use Games Areas and Sports Pitches across the UK. Working alongside local councils, schools, and leisure facilities, we deliver high-quality recreational spaces with a strong focus on safety, durability, and workmanship.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Digger Driver / Plant Operator to join our expanding Sports & Leisure Division.
The Role
This is a hands-on position involving nationwide travel and regular working away from home Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will operate excavators and other plant machinery while supporting the installation of play parks, sports facilities, and associated groundwork projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate excavators and other plant machinery in accordance with site requirements.
- Carry out excavation, grading, drainage, and groundwork preparation works.
- Assist with the installation of play parks, MUGAs, sports courts, and associated infrastructure.
- Work from site drawings and project specifications.
- Conduct daily plant checks and routine maintenance.
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within project timescales.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Support site teams with general groundwork duties when required.
- Maintain a professional approach when working on school, council, and public-sector sites.
RequirementsEssential
- Proven experience operating excavators within groundwork or construction environments.
- CPCS or NPORS Excavator qualification.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience in groundwork and civil engineering projects.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements on construction sites.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and work away from home Monday to Friday.
Desirable
- Experience within sports, leisure, or play park installations.
- Additional plant tickets (Dumper, Roller, Telehandler, etc.).
- Ability to read site drawings and set out works.
