Full job description

Job Title: Senior Care Support Worker

Service: Day Centre Team

Location: 27, Worlds End Hill, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 0XH

Reports to: Day Centre Manager

Type of position: Permanent

Probation: 6-months

Notice period: 4-weeks

Rate of pay: £14 p/h

Number of hours per week: 26.5 hours per week

Fixed Working Pattern:

Monday: 11am – 4pm
Tuesday: 11am – 4pm
Wednesday: 11am – 4pm
Thursday: 9am – 4pm - (includes a 30-minute unpaid break).
Friday: 11am – 4pm

Overtime entitlement: Eligible for overtime, based on operational need.

Service Purpose

To provide excellent care within a day centre setting supporting older people to remain active, connected, safe, and independent.

General Description

The Senior Care Support Worker is a senior member of the Day Centre team who delivers high-quality person-centered care, mentors colleagues and supports the effective operation of the service. The role is primarily focused on care quality, member wellbeing, safeguarding and day-to-day service delivery rather than formal people management. A key responsibility is acting as the designated deputy to the Day Centre Manager. When required, the post holder will step up and provide temporary operational leadership, ensuring continuity of service, coordinating staff and volunteers, and addressing day-to-day operational matters.

Key Responsibilities

· Deliver outstanding person-centered care and support.

· Promote dignity, independence, resilience, and choice.

· Support personal care, nutrition, mobility, and medication administration.

· Maintain accurate records and safeguarding standards.

· Lead activities and social engagement opportunities.

· Mentor and support colleagues and volunteers through positive role modeling.

· Support inductions of new members.

· Monitor care quality and identify service improvements.

· Act as deputy to the Day Centre Manager and provide temporary leadership during absences.

· Escalate significant incidents, safeguarding concerns, and operational risks.

Duties

Deliver personalised care in accordance with individual needs, ensuring members' needs are met with dignity and respect.
Front line activity delivery, ensuring we keep our members engaged and happy.
Foster a positive team environment and ensuring high standards of care
Assist residents with daily activities such as mobility, personal hygiene, medication administration, and meals
Maintain accurate documentation related to residents' health, wellbeing, and progress using IT systems
Communicate effectively with residents, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and address concerns
Support the organisation of activities and social events to promote residents’ mental and physical wellbeing
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies at all times
Contribute to ongoing training sessions and team meetings to enhance service deliver

Requirements

Hold relevant professional qualification (Care Certificate, NVQ 3 or higher / equivalent).
A firm knowledge and understanding of vulnerable adults and their care needs along with the core principles of Safeguarding Adults.
Trained or with experience in providing care and support to service users with a wide range of needs, illnesses, and disabilities (including dementia and how that can affect people diagnosed).
To create, run and encourage participation in a range of individual / group activities.
Experience acting as deputy/team lead
Excellent communication skills
To undertake tasks detailed in a service user’s support plan, using a person-centred approach and in the least intrusive way possible.
Have knowledge of Health and Safety (COSHH, RIDDOR, Food Hygiene, PPE).
To assist service users with toileting, continence management, personal hygiene, medication, eating/ drinking and mobility issues.
To present with compassion, empathy and a willingness to work and make our service users feel welcome, valued and enjoy their time in our care.
To maintain detailed and accurate records in respect of care, concerns, medication as instructed by management. Protecting confidentiality of all information relating to the service users and not divulging information to anyone who is not authorized to receive it.
Ability to deal with sensitive issues, manage conflicting views and expectations and cope with unpredictable issues and behaviours.
Robust knowledge of manual handling, using equipment and aids safely correctly. Additionally, taking responsibility for the safe handling of property and equipment belonging to the service user / charity.
Ability to prepare food / drink including (but not limited to): cooking, serving, temperature checking, storing. Possessing an awareness of service user’s choices, likes/dislikes, nutritional needs, allergies and cultural requirements.
Experience of working collaboratively, with professionals / families / representatives to enable effective joint working, communication and positive outcomes.
Medication management and administration oversight / compliance checking.
Ensuring that the Day Centre runs smoothly. Ensuring staff / volunteer have what they need to safely carry out their roles. Escalating where required.
Role modelling expectations and reporting issues within staffing team and / or with the service users to management where required.
Support health and safety compliance within the centre. Ensuring staff are using appropriate safety measures and equipment at all times with no exceptions.
Ability to undertake delegated management responsibilities and confidently lead the Day Centre in the absence of the Day Centre Manager, including staff supervision, operational decision-making, incident management and service coordination.
