FINANCE COORDINATOR / FINANCE ASSISTANT

For more than 50 years, we have supplied products to customers across the leisure, commercial, defence and superyacht sectors.
We are looking for an organised and detail-oriented Finance Coordinator / Finance Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of our finance function at our Wincanton site.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a varied, hands-on finance position covering transaction processing, ledger administration, reconciliations, cost tracking and general finance support.
You will help ensure that invoices, payments, manufacturing information and financial records are processed accurately and on time. You will also support month-end activity and provide reliable finance information to colleagues and senior management.
The position would suit an experienced Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper or Finance Coordinator who is confident using accounting systems and enjoys working accurately to regular deadlines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ledger administration
- Process customer invoices and purchase invoices accurately.
- Ensure invoices have the appropriate approvals and supporting documentation.
- Cross-reference supplier statements and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Prepare weekly supplier payment information for review and approval.
- Allocate customer receipts and other financial transactions accurately.
- Support routine credit-control activity and follow up outstanding invoices.
Reconciliations
- Complete bank and credit-card reconciliations.
- Assist with supplier, customer and intercompany account reconciliations.
- Process and reconcile multi-currency transactions and statements.
- Investigate routine discrepancies and escalate unresolved or unusual items.
Manufacturing and cost information
- Work with manufacturing and operational colleagues to maintain accurate production cost information.
- Assist with monitoring project expenditure and identifying missing or inconsistent records.
- Maintain supporting documentation for financial and manufacturing transactions.
Month-end and reporting support
- Assist with month-end processing and account reconciliations.
- Prepare information to support profit and loss reporting.
- Update budget and cost-tracking spreadsheets.
- Identify and flag unusual transactions or variances for management review.
- Prepare supporting information for VAT returns, year-end activity and audits.
Finance queries and administrative support
- Act as the first point of contact for routine internal finance queries.
- Respond professionally to supplier invoice and payment queries.
- Provide accurate financial information to the Senior Leadership Team when requested.
- Highlight potential cost-control or process-improvement opportunities for management consideration.
- Maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready electronic finance records.
- Support agreed improvements to finance systems and administrative processes.
- Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the level of the role.
ABOUT YOU
Essential
- At least two years’ relevant experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper or Finance Coordinator role.
- Practical experience of purchase ledger, sales ledger and financial reconciliations.
- Strong numerical and data-entry skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work to fixed weekly and month-end deadlines.
- Experience using accounting or ERP software.
- Competence using Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information appropriately.
- Confidence in identifying discrepancies and escalating issues when required.
Desirable
- AAT Level 3 or 4, or equivalent relevant practical experience.
- Experience using NetSuite.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, engineering or stock-based business.
- Experience with multi-currency or intercompany transactions.
- Experience supporting month-end, VAT or audit preparation.
