Full job description

TWMAD CIC is looking for reliable, confident and committed Mentors to support children and young people through 1:1, 2:1 and community-based intervention sessions.

This is a flexible, self-employed role supporting young people who may be experiencing challenges around education, behaviour, confidence, emotional wellbeing, family circumstances, safeguarding concerns, social communication, exclusion risk or wider life pressures.

The role is relationship-led and practical. Mentors spend time with young people, build trust, create positive engagement and support them to make safer, more positive choices. Sessions may include sport, music, cooking, gym work, outdoor activities, life skills, emotional regulation work, confidence-building, community activities or structured mentoring resources.

We are looking for people who can connect with young people, stay calm under pressure, communicate professionally and take the role seriously. This is not just about being available. We are looking for mentors who can be consistent, reliable, professional and able to represent TWMAD to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

Delivering 1:1 or 2:1 mentoring and intervention sessions with children and young people.
Building positive, trusting and professional relationships.
Supporting young people with confidence, behaviour, emotional regulation, decision-making and engagement.
Planning and delivering meaningful activities linked to the young person’s needs.
Completing clear, accurate and timely session reports.
Communicating professionally with TWMAD management, families, carers, schools and partner agencies where required.
Following safeguarding procedures and raising concerns appropriately.
Keeping availability updated through RotaCloud.
Working in line with TWMAD’s values, standards, boundaries and professional expectations.

Essential requirements:

Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Strong communication skills.
Reliability, punctuality and professionalism.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Confidence supporting young people who may present with challenging behaviour or complex needs.
Willingness to complete reports and follow TWMAD guidance.
Enhanced DBS, or willingness to complete one.

Desirable experience:

Youth work, mentoring, education, sports coaching, care, residential care, social care, behaviour support, SEND, SEMH, safeguarding, family support, creative work, music, community work or similar.

Pay:

Pay starts from £13.25 per hour, with progression available through the TWMAD Mentor Pathway. Higher rates are available for mentors who demonstrate strong reliability, professionalism, safeguarding awareness, report quality, communication, session delivery and the ability to work with more complex or higher-risk young people.

Mileage and agreed session-related expenses may be reimbursed in line with TWMAD guidance.

This role may include daytime, after-school, evening, weekend, school-based, home-based and community-based work depending on referral needs.

TWMAD is a growing organisation with clear development pathways for mentors, including progression into senior mentoring, lead mentor roles, workshops, training, community outreach and ambassador opportunities.
