Job Summary
A Nursery Assistant is required to support children with SEND needs across our small, friendly setting. You would be spending some time working alongside our Key Person team to support children to access their education as part of our group provision, and some time supporting individual children and implementing their individual support plans on a 1:1 basis. It involves keeping children safe in our open plan provision and large garden area. We can offer a warm welcome from our friendly team and a lovely community setting within Hinksey Park. Easy transport by bus from Redbridge Park and Ride, by bike or short walk from Oxford City Centre.
Responsibilities
- Support children during daily routines including play, meals, and rest periods
- Assist in implementing educational activities that promote cognitive, social, and emotional development.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children of various ages
- Support behavioural management strategies to encourage positive behaviour
- Aid in the organisation of classroom activities and resources
- Communicate effectively with children to promote language development and social skills
- Assist with behaviour management techniques based on applied behaviour analysis principles
- Meet with a number of outside professionals to support the SEND needs of children
- Support children's physical development through activities such as teaching physical education or organising outdoor play
- Read and implement educational materials or activity plans for clarity and accuracy when necessary manage assessments to review child progress
Qualifications and Essential qualities
- Need to have a minimum of a Level2 qualification for the childcare sector
- At least 2 years experience working with children aged 18m to 4 years of age.
- Ability to engage children in activity and experiences in a free play environment and support the development of communication and social skills using a variety of strategies.
- A sound understanding of child development
- A passion for inclusion and an interest in supporting children with SEND, with a willingness to learn and put into practise specific strategies of support.
- Need to have good spoken and written english to be able to communicate well, and complete any paperwork alongside the job role
Desirable
- SENDCO training or training for children on the autism spectrum
- Level 3 or above for the early years education
