Overview
The QHSE Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental activities across all the business. The role ensures compliance with UK legislation, customer requirements, and company standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee engagement. The QHSE Manager will work closely with All departments to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Duties
Quality Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001.
- Ensure all fabricated uPVC windows and doors meet customer specifications, system supplier requirements, and company quality standards.
- Monitor quality throughout fabrication processes, including:
- Cutting
- Welding
- Corner cleaning
- Bead preparation
- Hardware fitting
- Glazing
- Final assembly
- Packaging
- Manage product inspections and final quality release.
- Investigate customer complaints and internal quality issues using structured root cause analysis.
- Implement and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyse quality data and identify opportunities to reduce defects, rework, and customer returns.
- Support continuous improvement projects to improve Right First Time (RFT) performance.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant UK regulations.
- Develop and maintain company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out and review risk assessments, COSHH assessments, DSE assessments, and manual handling.
- Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and behavioural safety observations.
- Ensure machinery guarding and safety devices are maintained.
- Monitor safe operation of:
- CNC saws
- Welders
- Corner cleaners
- Routers
- Drilling and milling machines
- Glass handling equipment
- Forklift trucks
- Lifting equipment
- Coordinate contractor management and permit-to-work systems.
- Deliver safety inductions and ongoing training.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the business.
- Lead by example in following all safety procedures and wearing PPE.
- Ensure the team works safely and reports hazards immediately.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of obstructions.
- Participate in toolbox talks and promote a positive safety culture.
Environmental Management
- Maintain compliance with environmental legislation.
- Manage waste streams, including uPVC off-cuts, aluminium, glass, timber, cardboard, and general waste.
- Promote recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
- Monitor energy consumption and support sustainability projects.
- Ensure appropriate storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Support environmental objectives and continuous improvement.
Compliance & Auditing
- Maintain ISO 9001 certification.
- Plan and conduct internal audits.
- Coordinate external certification and customer audits.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed effectively and on time.
- Monitor supplier quality performance where required.
Manufacturing Support
- Work closely with Production Managers and Supervisors to improve manufacturing performance.
- Support process improvements that increase productivity while maintaining quality and safety.
- Monitor manufacturing KPIs and identify trends.
- Assist with new product introductions and process validation.
- Ensure calibration of inspection and measuring equipment.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
- Proficient in inventory management software (ERP/MRP systems)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Understanding of manufacturing workflows and materials used in window production
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Qualifications
Essential
- ISOH managing safety General Certificate.
- Experience managing QHSE systems within manufacturing.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001.
- Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience carrying out internal audits.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Desirable
- NEBOSH.
- ISO 9001 Auditor qualification.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma qualification.
- Experience within the uPVC window and door fabrication industry.

- At least Three years' experience in a QHSE role within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of uPVC window and door fabrication is highly desirable.
- Proven success in reducing defects, improving safety, and maintaining ISO standards
