The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Assisant HR Manager to join our friendly HR team. Our offices are conveniently located just a five-minute walk from East Worthing railway station.
Reporting to the HR Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the full employee lifecycle, providing a professional and people-focused HR service. You’ll advise managers on employee relations, HR compliance and policy matters, building strong working relationships and delivering practical HR solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for HR and a drive to improve the services offered to our people. They should be happy dealing with the more routine activities, whilst also being involved in some exciting new projects such as full digitalisation of our HR function, employee engagement initiatives, benchmarking and policy development.
We're looking for someone who is has a strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice and demonstrates fairness, consistency and sound judgement in everything they do. They will be proactive, organised and highly IT-literate HR professional with Level 5 CIPD qualification and proven experience in a busy HR environment.
Main duties and responsibilities
Support the HR Manager with the day-to-day operation of the HR function, employee relations, HR compliance, and policy development, escalating issues when appropriate.
Deputise for HR Manager at employee relations meetings and provide administrative support for complex casework, including accurate notetaking and action tracking.
Oversee the day-to-day management and continuous development of the HR Management System (HRMS), providing user support, training, reporting and HR Metrics to inform business decisions.
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment activities, including advertising, interviewing, onboarding administration and recruitment reporting.
- Support HR/Payroll Coordinator with the preparation of routine HR administration in relation to starters, changes to terms and conditions of employment, leavers, etc, to ensure compliance with employment legislation, including employee lifecycle changes, payroll audits and maintaining accurate HR records.
- Lead the development and delivery of the company's Apprenticeship Scheme, working with colleges, government bodies, and training providers to build a sustainable talent pipeline and support succession planning.
- Support the HR/Payroll Coordinator with work experience placements and organize company training programmes, including management, first aid, and other mandatory or operational training.
- Support HR projects and continuous improvement initiative, including HR systems implementation, process enhancements and research into best practice.
- Conduct audits on the monthly payroll in conjunction with the HR/Payroll Coordinator.
- Provide confidential administrative and professional support to the HR Manager.
The Person
To be successful in this role, candidates must have:-
- CIPD Level 5 qualification OR extensive knowledge gained from working in a similar role within a HR environment.
- Good knowledge and understanding of UK law, theory, and HR best practice.
- Proficient understanding and extensive use of HR management systems.
- Excellent understanding of GDPR and how it affects the work of an HR Department.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritise a high volume of work and a wide range of tasks.
- Able to work autonomously and comfortable with rapid change, as well as working as part of a wider team.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, and other relevant software packages.
- The ability to learn/absorb knowledge quickly and retain information.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing workloads.
- Dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information.
