We are looking for an experienced, self-driven Mobile Device and Smart Home Technician to operate as an independent contractor across Telford and the surrounding areas.
This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial tradesperson or technician who wants to run their own day-to-day operations without the significant capital investment of purchasing a commercial vehicle and specialised equipment. You will be provided with a fully equipped, insured, and taxed company van, complete with all necessary repair tools and parts stock.
Operating on a self-employed basis, you will be responsible for sourcing local residential and business customers, managing your own diary, and executing high-quality repairs and installations in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently source and secure customers requiring device repair or smart home installations within the local area.
- Manage your own daily diary, appointments, and travel routes.
- Conduct on-site repairs for mobile phones, tablets, and laptops (including screen replacements, battery swaps, and diagnostic troubleshooting).
- Install and configure smart home hardware (e.g., smart thermostats, security cameras, and video doorbells) at customers' properties.
- Maintain accurate records of completed jobs and submit regular invoices for your share of the completed work.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the provided commercial vehicle and stock.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrable experience in mobile device repair and hardware diagnostics.
- Experience or strong familiarity with installing smart home technology.
- A proactive, sales-oriented mindset with the ability to generate local leads and build customer relationships.
- A full, clean UK Driving Licence (essential).
- Must hold, or be willing to obtain, an up-to-date Basic DBS check.
- Must hold, or be willing to obtain, Public Liability Insurance.
- Must be registered as self-employed and eligible to work in the UK.
