The D&I Systems Operations Lead will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the Systems Operations team.
Ensures that the Systems Manager is informed with regards to the operational capacity and functionality of the server estate. This includes improvements, risks, changes, and problems.
Manages multiple infrastructure projects, delivery of new initiatives, and responsible for DR and BC planning, within the remit of the Systems Operations Team.
Line manages Systems Operations engineers.
Provide expert guidance and technical leadership to junior, senior, and advanced engineers. Lead on investigating a range of specialist and complex D&I issues, following the relevant technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices.
Responsible for ensuring a structured approach for problem, incident, and change management processes.
Primarily remote working with some on site duties as and when required.
The role is part of the on-call Systems rota.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
- To lead a team of Systems Operations Engineers and responsible for the coordination of design, development, support, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the systems infrastructure operational function, ensuring that all services and processes are efficient, effective, and meet defined and agreed service levels.
- Responsible for ensuring the application the latest security patches to servers, server upgrades and migrations, daily maintenance, SQL maintenance, backup maintenance and testing, AD group policy and permission changes, vm tools and hardware, and on call cover. Where there is gaps or failings in any of these functions, to plan and address them.
- Assisting the implementation of the systems and tools used by the Systems Operations section.
- To assist with D&Is Problem Management function:
o Ensure problems are dealt with appropriately and within Service Level Agreement timescales.
o Review metrics for trends which may indicate emergent problems.
o Produce recommendations as required.
o Produce regular reports for the Systems Manager, Head of Technical Services and provide detailed evidence for the IG Toolkit.
- Ensure the Systems Operations team performs all relevant compliance checks and controls.
- Deputy/System Manager and/or Product Expert for all Systems Operations related tools and information systems such as MS Active Directory, MS Server & SQL, Commvault. Ensure these systems are kept up to date and fit for purpose. and maintaining an up-to-date System Level Security Policy (SLSP). Please note that this list is not exhaustive and will change as other systems come online.
- To support and assist the other D&I Section Managers with testing, improving, repairing and maintaining of the IT estate, ensuring that equipment, operating systems and software/firmware are at the correct revision level, completing Change Management Requests where necessary.
