We are MattressNextDay, one of the UK’s leading online mattress and bed specialists. For three consecutive years, we have been awarded the prestigious National Bed Federation Online Bed Retailer of the Year. With over 1 million happy customers and a fast-paced, high-volume warehouse operation, our technology infrastructure is the absolute backbone of our business.
As we continue to scale our platforms, we are looking for a hands-on IT Systems Administrator who can confidently manage our e-commerce cloud servers, support our core business systems, and keep our warehouse hardware running flawlessly.
This is a highly dynamic, hybrid role designed for a tech professional who loves variety. You will split your focus between managing our high-performance cloud hosting environment and keeping our physical warehouse operation running smoothly.
You will look after our AWS cloud infrastructure and MySQL databases, OrderWise ERP system and its associated hardware—ensuring our team on the ground has fully functional scanners, printers, and workstations to dispatch orders accurately and on time.
While you won't be expected to build new website features from scratch, a basic understanding of web code (PHP/HTML) is highly desirable to help troubleshoot how our e-commerce platforms talk to our databases and internal systems.
Key Responsibilities - Cloud & Database Administration
- Infrastructure Management: Provision, configure, secure, and maintain our Linux-based AWS cloud infrastructure (specifically EC2 instances).
- Database Administration: Manage, optimize, and back up our MySQL database environments to ensure data integrity and system speed.
- CI/CD & Deployment: Maintain code deployment pipelines, ensuring smooth transitions from staging to production.
Warehouse & ERP Operations Support
- OrderWise & ERP Management: Serve as the internal technical contact for our OrderWise ERP system, assisting with user setup, system updates, and basic troubleshooting.
- Hardware Fleet Support: Provision, configure, and maintain our warehouse hardware fleet, including Zebra Handheld Terminals (HHTs), barcode scanners, and thermal label printers.
- Internal IT Support: Manage warehouse network connectivity, workstations, and local network switches to eliminate operational downtime.
Technical Requirements
- AWS Expertise: Solid experience managing cloud architecture, specifically utilizing AWS EC2 for web hosting and RDS for database management.
- Linux & MySQL: Deep familiarity with Linux server administration and strong hands-on experience maintaining MySQL databases.
- Hardware & Desktop Support: Proven experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise mobile devices (like Zebra/Android HHTs) and networked warehouse printers.
Highly Desirable Skills (The Big Plus)
Because our core application stack relies on classic web languages, we are highly prioritizing candidates who also possess:
- PHP Literacy: The ability to read and debug backend PHP code when server or data synchronization issues arise.
- Frontend Basics (HTML / CSS): A foundational understanding of standard web structures to assist with localized code debugging or digital layout tweaks.
- OrderWise Experience: Prior technical experience supporting or administering OrderWise ERP is a massive advantage.
