About the role
We’re hiring a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our busy workshop. You’ll strip, rebuild and fit, mechanical assemblies for HGVs and specialist refuse vehicles, be part of conversions, refurbishments and fleet maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Strip, inspect, rebuild, and install mechanical assemblies (Bodies, binlifts & Chassis).
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs and preventative maintenance to HGV standards.
- Work with hydraulics and pneumatics in partnership with our hydraulic engineer.
- Work with Fabricators in repairing and modifying bodies, binlifts & chassis.
- Read engineering drawings, carry out alignments and tolerance checks.
- Use lifting equipment and follow PUWER/LOLER/onsite H&S procedures.
- Record work accurately on job cards and assist QA before vehicle handover.
Essential skills / experience
- Vocational qualification (Level 2–3 engineering / fitter) or equivalent proven HGV/heavy vehicle mechanical experience.
- Strong practical ability with engines, gearboxes, driveline and heavy-vehicle components.
- Good fault-finding and workshop practices; able to use hand/power tools and test gauges.
- Team player with clear communication and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Perferable
- Experience with HGV hydraulic systems and vehicle diagnostics.
- Welding/assembly experience and Level 3 apprenticeship background (we’ll support further training).
