Coopers Transport Services is looking for an organised and proactive Transport Planner to join our growing team.
This is a key position within our fast-paced transport operation, responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimising transport activities across the UK, with occasional international movements. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of both hazardous and non-hazardous loads, while always maintaining compliance, driver welfare, and excellent customer service.
This opportunity would suit someone with transport or logistics experience who enjoys problem-solving and working in a dynamic environment. Whilst previous transport planning experience is advantageous, full training and development will be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule hazardous and non-hazardous deliveries to ensure timely and cost-effective operations.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with driver hours, Working Time Directive requirements, and company procedures.
- Manage the movement of curtainsiders, tankers, powder tankers, and HIAB vehicles.
- Report directly to the Transport Manager.
- Handle incoming calls and customer enquiries in a professional manner.
- Accurately input and maintain transport and operational data within company systems.
- Organise and prioritise workloads to meet the demands of a busy transport operation.
- Complete general transport and haulage administration duties.
- Brief and debrief drivers, ensuring all documentation is completed correctly.
- Monitor transport compliance requirements and identify any issues.
- Liaise effectively with drivers, customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Participate in an occasional Saturday morning rota as required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience within a transport, logistics, or haulage environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational and coordination abilities.
- Good geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Competent with Microsoft Excel and general IT systems.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, conscientious, and able to work under pressure.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Recognised transport industry qualification.
- HGV Licence.
- ADR awareness or experience working with hazardous goods.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm
Additional Hours: Occasional Saturday mornings as part of a management rota.
