We are looking for an experienced and motivated hairdressing tutor/assessor to join our training team in Birmingham City Centre. This is an excellent opportunity for an industry professional who is passionate about supporting apprentices and learners to achieve their qualifications and progress within the hair and barbering sector.
Working closely with learners and employers, you will deliver high-quality training, assessment, and support, helping individuals develop the practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for a successful career in the industry.
Responsibilities
As a hairdressing tutor/assessor, you will be responsible for delivering and assessing apprenticeship programmes, supporting learners throughout their training journey, and ensuring they remain engaged, motivated, and on track to achieve their goals.
You will build strong relationships with employers, provide regular progress reviews, and contribute to maintaining high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in hairdressing at a professional level, with relevant qualifications (Level 2/3) recognised within the industry
- Strong teaching or training background, ideally with experience delivering vocational education programmes
- Excellent communication skills in English and Maths, , both verbal and written
- Good organisational skills to manage lesson planning, assessments, and learner progress effectively
- Ability to utilise IT tools for lesson delivery, record keeping, and student engagement
- Knowledge of plumbing or related technical skills is advantageous but not essential
- Exceptional organisational skills to coordinate practical sessions and ensure safety standards are maintained
- Ability to motivate learners, foster a positive learning environment, and adapt teaching methods as needed

- Plan and deliver engaging training sessions, workshops, and learner support activities.
- Carry out workplace visits, observations, reviews, and assessments.
- Monitor learner progress and provide timely feedback to support achievement.
- Work collaboratively with employers to ensure apprentices receive effective workplace support.
- Support learners in developing both technical and professional skills.
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation in line with awarding body and funding requirements.
- Contribute to programme development and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure training delivery reflects current industry standards, trends, and best practice.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- A Level 3 qualification in hairdressing
- Significant occupational experience within the hairdressing industry.
- A strong understanding of apprenticeship delivery and learner support.
- Knowledge of VTCT qualifications and apprenticeship standards.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to motivate, engage, and support learners from a range of backgrounds.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage workloads effectively.
- A professional, positive, and learner-focused approach.
Desirable Qualifications
- D32/D33, A1, TAQA, or CAVA Assessor Qualification.
- Teaching or training qualification.
- Barbering experience or qualifications.
