We are currently expanding our facility in the Mill Lane area of Alton and are seeking a meticulous and dedicated individual to join our electronics assembly team.
The Role
We are looking for a skilled Solderer/Assembly Operative to focus on the accurate and efficient assembly of our electronic products. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for high-precision hand soldering, with a specific focus on battery packs and PCB components. You will ensure the highest standards of quality, reliability, and IPC compliance are consistently maintained.
Responsibilities
- Precision Soldering: Perform intricate hand soldering of electronic components onto PCBs (SMT and THT) and the assembly of battery packs, ensuring secure connections and correct polarity.
- Quality Compliance: Assemble, solder, and inspect products in strict accordance with IPC standards (IPC-A-610 / IPC-J-STD-001).
- Battery Handling: Safely handle, prepare, and solder battery terminals and connectors, maintaining high safety and quality protocols.
- Inspection & Rework: Perform detailed visual inspections of solder joints, batteries, and cable assemblies to identify defects such as bridges, voids, or cold joints. Carry out precision SMT rework and component replacement on defective assemblies as required.
- Equipment Operation: Safely use soldering irons, desoldering tools, microscopes, and battery testing equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including quality logs and defect reports.
Requirements
- IPC Certification & Standards: Proven knowledge and application of IPC-A-610 or IPC-J-STD-001 standards. Current or recent Class 2 certification is highly desirable.
- Soldering & Assembly Experience: Hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing, specifically hand soldering and performing SMT rework on surface mount (SMT) and through-hole (PTH) components to IPC Class 2 standards.
- Inspection & Quality: Ability to visually inspect work (solder joints, batteries, cable assemblies) against IPC Class 2 acceptability criteria.
- Battery Handling: Demonstrated experience in soldering batteries, battery packs, and associated wiring/connectors.
- Manual Dexterity: Excellent fine motor skills, with the ability to handle small components and wires with precision.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret work instructions, assembly diagrams, and basic schematics.
- Attention to Detail: Strong commitment to producing reliable, high-quality work and maintaining accurate quality logs.
