Full job description

The role

This is a hands-on, all-round mechanical position for someone who genuinely knows their way around a vehicle. You won't be pigeonholed into servicing and tyres — the work is varied, technically demanding, and you'll be trusted to see a job through from diagnosis to completion.

Day to day you will:

Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults accurately, using diagnostic equipment alongside proper fault-finding logic
Carry out complex engine work including timing belts and chains, head gaskets, clutches, turbos, injectors and internal engine repairs
Service and repair a wide range of vehicles across cars and light commercials, petrol, diesel and increasingly hybrid and electric
Undertake brakes, suspension, steering, cooling and exhaust work to a high standard
Prepare vehicles to retail standard, identifying faults before the customer does
Road test vehicles and confirm repairs are right first time
Keep clear, accurate records of work carried out and parts used
Work safely, keep the workshop and yard tidy, and look after the tools and equipment

What we're looking for

Essential:

Time-served or qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent experience)
Proven diagnostic ability — someone who can find the fault, not just replace parts until it goes away
Genuine experience of complex engine work, including engine strip and rebuild
Broad all-round competence across every aspect of vehicle mechanics
Willingness and ability to work outside in all weather conditions — a good proportion of the work takes place outdoors and on the yard, year round. This is not an occasional thing; it's part of the job
Full UK driving licence
A methodical, self-motivated approach and the ability to work without someone standing over you

Desirable:

MOT Tester qualification (or willingness to train — we'll fund it for the right person)
Air conditioning qualification
Electric and hybrid vehicle certification (IMI Level 2/3)
Light commercial vehicle experience
Welding ability
