Full job description

We’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to lead and develop our maintenance team within a busy waste processing plant. This role is key to maximising plant uptime, improving fault diagnosis, and driving a strong maintenance culture.

What You’ll Be Doing

Getting stuck in on breakdowns, fault finding, and repairs
Keeping the plant running with limited tools, spares, and external support
Thinking on your feet and finding practical solutions under pressure
Working alongside the team to build capability through doing, not telling
Creating a resilient, self-sufficient maintenance function
Improving uptime through real-world fixes, not theory

The Reality of the Role

This is not for the faint-hearted. You will be:

Working outdoors in all weather conditions
Operating in a dirty, noisy, physically demanding environment
Working at heights and in confined spaces
Tackling problems where the answer isn’t obvious — and sometimes doesn’t exist yet

What We’re Looking For

Strong hands-on mechanical experience (conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, etc.)
Someone who rolls up their sleeves and leads by example
Resourceful and resilient — able to make things work with what’s available
Comfortable stepping outside normal process when needed (safely and sensibly)
A problem solver who gets the job done, no matter the conditions
