Job Role: Lecturer in Fashion Communication

Department: Visual Performing Arts

Reporting to: Associate Director Curriculum, Visual Performing Arts

Contract: MC Lecturer, hourly paid

Salary: Rate A – D, £15.97 - £34.49 per hour (inclusive of Holiday Pay)

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Lecturer in Fashion Communication (Hourly Paid) to deliver high‑quality, industry‑informed teaching across fashion promotion, branding, visual communication, and digital media. The role supports learners to develop strong creative identities and professional skills, preparing them for progression into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment within the fashion and creative industries, while contributing to curriculum development and the College’s commitment to excellent teaching and learner support.

Key Responsibilities

Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students.
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
Employ a variety of teaching techniques and resources consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Plan and deliver a suitable Assessment Programme ensuring marked work meets Middlesbrough College Gold Standards.
Implement Middlesbrough College’s Core Values through the Gold Standard of Teaching and Learning.
Utilise diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every student, on a regular basis, for the purpose of intervention and/or acceleration toward academic achievement.

Qualifications

To hold a relevant qualification at Degree level or equivalent.
To be a qualified Teacher or must be prepared to commence an appropriate teaching qualification on appointment to the post.
Personal commitment to keeping your professional knowledge up to date and improving your capabilities.
Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent) or willing to work towards it.
Industry recognised training or certification in relevant digital platforms e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, digital content creation tools– Desirable.

Experience

Current knowledge and / or experience across Fashion Communication, branding, styling, digital media, buying, content creation, trends, editorial and visual merchandising.
Experience producing high‑quality creative work using industry‑standard software, processes, and technologies.

Knowledge & Skills

Current knowledge of potential issues in the Fashion Industry that may impact on curriculum delivery.
Knowledge of emerging technologies, workflows, creative trends within the fashion and creative industries.
Knowledge of career opportunities for 16 - 18 and 19+ students in the fashion Industry.
Good oral and written communication skills with a capacity to deal effectively with staff, students, parents, employers and others.
