Job Title: Recovery Practitioner (Nights)

Job Description
Our Company Abbeycare are looking to recruit a nightshift Recovery Practitioner to provide social care support to clients through detoxification and the early stages of recovery from substance use. Main tasks include observations of clients physical and mental health through detoxification, daily living support, emotional support, health and wellbeing support, health and safety practice, medication practice, housekeeping tasks. To monitor the residential area to maintain safety, structure, cleanliness, security, health, and safety of clients. Contact management or clinical staff or emergency resources according to protocols and circumstances of emergencies.
Required knowledge, abilities and skills
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Basic English, arithmetic and IT skills.
- Knowledge of CQC Codes of Practice
- Knowledge of the National Care & Recovery Standards
- Knowledge of basic physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual difficulties common to substance use and addictive behaviour problems.
- Knowledge and use of effective counselling skills

- Demonstrate a compassionate, encouraging and responsive approach to client’s recovery
- Demonstrate good communication skills
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Work with and guide physically and mentally distressed clients.
- Provide clients with emotional support when required.

Skills/Duties
- Work on a rotational basis providing overnight care support.
- Primary health care duties of a staff member include facilitating and encouraging, where appropriate a client to maintain a high standard of personal care. Any changes in a client’s health should be reported to a management or clinical staff member immediately. This includes accidents, unusual incidents or a deterioration of a client’s health
- Support the duty nurse carrying out medication audits in line with Abbeycare medication policies and procedures and best practice.
- Support the duty nursing in carrying out observations through the night with clients on early detox in line with Abbeycare protocols monitoring withdrawal symptoms.
- Encourage clients to develop a healthy sleeping pattern by going to bed on time and getting up in the morning.
- Complete and record thorough case notes and duty shift sheets to ensure all practice is completed on shift.
- Complete specific administration tasks as requested by the Abbeycare Management team such as updating databases, mailshots and preparing care plans etc
- Establish clients have completed homework tasks or sig event sheets for the following days therapeutic sessions
- Ensure the building is secure in the evenings and routine checks carried out through the night.
- Ensure all fire safety checks are carried out through the night.
- Respond to any service enquiries appropriately by providing comprehensive service information and emailing enquiries to the admissions team or outreach team as appropriate.
- Handle any crisis call appropriately and follow protocols in relation to safeguarding risk
- Ensure that information/allegations implying unacceptable behaviour towards clients or their families are reported, promptly, to the Registered Manager.
- Carry out your social care practice following Abbeycare health and safety practice and in line with specific risk assessments.
- Offer clients emotional support and reassurance through the night should a client require it through the detoxification / rehabilitation process.
- Follow Abbeycare protocols for any unplanned self-discharges during the night.
- Encourage clients develop or rediscover daily living skills such as keeping their rooms tidy, laundry etc.
- Understand fully the requirement of confidentiality in all areas of your work.
- Ensuring that client’s property and possessions are properly cared for.
- Carryout specified housekeeping tasks through the night.
- Carryout any catering tasks through your shift – such as assisting with breakfast preparation.
- Participate in monthly team meetings.
- Participate in regular supervision with Senior staff.
- Undertake any training essential to your professional development in fulfilling the role of Night Recovery Practitioner as determined by the Management team.
- Involvement in such other appropriate duties as determined by the Management team.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or specific addiction or counselling qualifications.
Good communication, people skills and computer literacy (MS Word, e-mail, and internet) is essential.
A current driving license is essential.
Abbeycare may consider less qualified or experienced candidates who are willing to undergo further the required level of training.
