Landscaping Operative (Skilled / Semi-Skilled)
Permanent / Full-Time / Seasonal roles available
Salary: Competitive, negotiable depending on skills and experience
About Us
Landcraft Landscape & Design Ltd is a family-run, award-winning landscape construction company delivering high-quality, bespoke gardens.
We are a small but growing business with a close-knit, dynamic team who take pride in working hard, supporting one another and producing exceptional landscaping. We offer a positive, professional working environment where reliability, teamwork and commitment are genuinely valued.
Our projects are predominantly construction-led landscaping, managing gardens from initial design through to full build and completion.
The Role
We are looking for a Skilled or Semi-Skilled Landscaping Operative to support our teams with hands-on site labouring and groundworks, helping projects run smoothly and efficiently.
This is a physically demanding, site-based role, suited to someone who understands landscaping as outdoor construction work rather than garden maintenance. You will play an important part in keeping sites productive, organised and safe.
Key Responsibilities
Landscaping & Labouring Duties
- Providing hands-on labouring support to landscaping teams on live construction sites
- Carrying out physically demanding landscaping and groundworks tasks, including:
- Extensive digging, trenching and ground preparation
- Loading, moving and distributing materials around site (soil, aggregates, paving, plants and construction materials)
- Filling and moving buckets, barrowing materials and maintaining a steady flow of materials to operatives
- Assisting with foundations, levels and preparation for hard landscaping works
- Supporting paving, walling, decking and other structural landscaping tasks
- Operating and assisting with machinery and equipment such as mixers, compactors, cutters, strimmers and other landscaping tools (where trained)
- Regular manual handling, lifting and carrying in line with Health & Safety guidance
Site Support & Efficiency
- Working closely with the Team Leader / Foreman to support daily site productivity
- Anticipating what materials, tools or support are needed next and acting proactively
- Keeping work areas clear, organised and efficient to allow skilled operatives to work without interruption
- Replenishing materials, tidying work zones and maintaining safe access routes
Site Standards & Health & Safety
- Maintaining a clean, safe and professional site environment at all times
- Correct storage of materials, tools and equipment
- Actively identifying and preventing hazards, including trip risks, obstructions and spillages
- Complying fully with Health & Safety legislation, RAMS and company procedures
- Correct and consistent use of PPE
Attendance, Reliability & Flexibility
- Maintaining excellent attendance and punctuality, which is critical to the success of landscaping projects
- Demonstrating a high level of reliability and commitment, as site work depends on full team availability
- Being flexible with working hours, site locations and daily tasks to meet business and project needs
Driving, Travel & Logistics
- A full UK driving licence is highly desirable and strongly preferred
- The ability to drive greatly assists with daily logistics, including:
- Morning and evening meeting points
- Shared team travel to and from sites
- Transporting tools, materials and equipment using the company fleet
- Willingness to use company vehicles responsibly to suit business needs
- Regular travel to sites, including into London; applicants must be mobile and adaptable
- Vehicle sharing is encouraged
Responsibility & Care
- Responsible for the correct use and care of:
- Company vehicles, tools, machinery and equipment
- Client property, ensuring sites are tidy, safe and respected at all times
- Plant and tool hire
- Adhering to data protection requirements for company and client information
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous experience in landscaping, groundworks, construction labouring or a similar physically demanding outdoor role
- A clear understanding that this role is landscaping and construction-focused, not garden or grounds maintenance
- Comfortable undertaking heavy manual labour, including digging, lifting, carrying, barrowing and repetitive physical tasks throughout the day
- Good level of physical fitness and stamina, with the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong work ethic with the ability to maintain pace and focus on busy sites
- Excellent reliability, punctuality and attendance
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team
- Awareness of Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices
