Summary
We are seeking a passionate Trainee Zoo Keeper to join our team in the United Kingdom. Based at our educational centre in Selsdon, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in animal husbandry and conservation education. This is not a teaching role.
This role is suitable for somebody who is newly qualified as a Zoo Keeper, potentially without much prior professional experience.
The salary for this role is minimum wage, in line with age.
This role would need to start by September.
The hours for this role would be 08:30-3:30, Monday - Friday. There is an option for this role to be term time only, dependant on candidates. This role is a fixed term role for one year, with the potential to expand further.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily animal care and husbandry for species including corsac foxes, parrots, meerkats, capybaras, skunks, sugar gliders, and more.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of animal habitats ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Help with educational activities and demonstrations for children and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, diet, and behaviour.
- Follow established protocols for animal handling and welfare.
- Contribute to conservation projects and scientific research initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Basic knowledge of animal care or related laboratory experience.
- Strong interest in wildlife conservation and education.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills suitable for engaging with children and colleagues.
- Willingness to learn about various species and their specific needs.
- Prior experience with laboratory or scientific research is advantageous but not essential.
- Enthusiasm for working outdoors and handling animals.
Applicants should be able to work independently, whilst completing their tasks to a high standard.
Pay: From £10.85 per hour
