We are currently seeking a motivated, safety-conscious and experienced individual to join our team as a Arboricultural Chargehand. Neighbourhood Services plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the environment across Neath Port Talbot. Our Arboricultural Team is responsible for the management of thousands of trees across the county borough, helping to keep residents, visitors and highways safe while protecting and enhancing our natural environment. The team delivers a wide range of work including tree inspections, maintenance programmes, emergency response, tree planting initiatives and the management of protected trees.

As an Arboricultural Chargehand, you will lead and supervise a specialist arboricultural team responsible for maintaining the Council's tree stock, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with arboricultural best practice and relevant legislation.
Your daily routine will involve supervising and supporting a small arboricultural team undertaking a range of tree maintenance activities across the county borough. You will carry out climbing and aerial tree work, including pruning, planting and felling operations, while conducting surveys to identify maintenance requirements and assess risks. You will ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with relevant legislation and industry best practice, monitor contractor performance, and provide arboricultural advice and guidance to colleagues, residents and partner organisations.
About you:
Do you have:
- Relevant NPTC certificates of competence for arboricultural operations.
- Experience working within the arboricultural industry.
- Good knowledge of arboricultural best practice and relevant legislation.
- Ability to supervise staff and work safely in a range of environments.
- Full driving licence (including the relevant vehicle categories required for the role).
