Location: Burgh Island, Devon
Role: Housekeeping Supervisor
Reporting to: Head Housekeeper / Executive Head Housekeeper
Salary: From £28,965.25. per annum
Contract: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 (rota-based)
At Burgh Island Hotel, our beautifully restored Art Deco landmark offers a unique and luxurious escape like no other. Set on its own tidal island off the Devon coast, we are proud to deliver a guest experience steeped in charm, style and meticulous attention to detail.
We are now looking for a Housekeeping Supervisor to join our team – someone who takes real pride in exceptional standards, enjoys being hands-on and is ready to take that next step in supporting and leading others.
This is very much a hands-on supervisory role. You will work alongside the housekeeping team carrying out the day-to-day duties of a Housekeeper, while also taking responsibility for leading the shift, checking standards and helping the department run smoothly.
What You’ll Do
As part of the housekeeping team, you will:
- Service and clean guest bedrooms to the high standards expected at Burgh Island.
- Carry out evening turndown service to create a luxurious night-time environment for our guests.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests for additional items or amenities.
- Ensure public areas remain immaculate throughout the day.
- Assist with deep cleans, linen handling and back-of-house cleanliness.
- Carry out all duties with discretion, security awareness and pride in your work.
- Always greet guests with a warm, professional and welcoming presence.
Alongside this, as a Supervisor you will:
- Lead the shift, helping to organise the team and ensuring daily priorities and workloads are understood.
- Check and sign off guest bedrooms, ensuring they meet our required standards before being released for guests.
- Monitor standards throughout the shift, addressing anything that needs attention and providing constructive feedback where appropriate.
- Support the Head Housekeeper and Executive Head Housekeeper with the smooth day-to-day running of the department.
- Monitor stock levels of housekeeping supplies, linen, amenities and cleaning products, highlighting requirements and helping to ensure the team has what it needs.
- Support the training, coaching and development of new and existing members of the housekeeping team.
- Lead by example, demonstrating the standards, pace, attention to detail and behaviours expected from the wider team.
- Help new team members settle into the department, understand our ways of working and build confidence in their role.
- Communicate clearly with other departments where guest requests, maintenance issues or operational matters need to be followed up.
- Support the management team in maintaining a positive, organised and respectful working environment.
What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to be someone who wants to stand on the sidelines and simply tell others what to do – we are looking for a Supervisor who is happy to roll up their sleeves and work alongside the team.
You will ideally:
- Have previous housekeeping experience, preferably within a hotel or high-standard hospitality environment.
- Have some previous supervisory experience, or be an experienced Housekeeper who is ready to take the next step.
- Have an excellent eye for detail and take genuine pride in high standards.
- Be comfortable giving direction, feedback and support to others.
- Be organised and able to prioritise when the department is busy.
- Be approachable and supportive while still being confident in maintaining clear standards.
- Be dependable, positive and willing to lead by example.
- Understand that great leadership starts with consistency – doing the basics brilliantly and helping others to do the same.
Working Hours & Flexibility
- 40-hour contract across 5 days per week, scheduled on a rota basis.
- Shifts may start at 7am, 9am or 1pm – full flexibility is essential.
- Weekends and bank holidays form part of the normal working schedule.
