Butchery Operative
DTC Foods is an established organic butchery business operating the brands Eversfield Organic and The Organic Butchery. Based in Bratton Clovelly, just outside Okehampton, we prepare high-quality organic meat fresh to order and deliver directly to our customers across the UK. Quality, traditional butchery and outstanding customer service are at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on role across the production process: making sausages and burgers, supporting bacon curing and finishing, packing retail products, and completing the stock and traceability records that underpin our quality standards. You will work alongside skilled butchers and receive full training for the tasks and equipment you use.
FULL TRAINING PROVIDED. Food-production experience is welcome, but the right attitude and attention to detail matter most.
Key Responsibilities
- Sausage production: accurately weigh meat, seasonings and other ingredients; mix batches and once trained, fill, link and portion products to specification.
- Burger production: prepare meat and ingredients, mix to approved recipes, form and portion burgers, and check finished weights and presentation.
- Bacon production: support curing and finishing by weighing and applying cure mixes, following batch instructions and curing times, handling product during the cure, and preparing bacon for slicing and packing.
- Equipment and cleaning: set up, operate and clean production equipment safely after training and authorisation.
- Packing and labelling: weigh, pack, seal and label retail meat products accurately, ready for dispatch.
- Quality and food safety: follow recipes, product specifications, allergen controls, hygiene procedures and cleaning schedules at all times.
- Stock and traceability: check deliveries, rotate stock and record stock movements, batch information and production data on our stock system.
- Teamwork and service: work closely with butchers, pack and dispatch colleagues so customer orders are accurate, complete and ready on time.
- Standards: identify and report quality issues, shortages or discrepancies promptly and keep work areas clean, tidy and well organised.
About You
· Reliable and positive: you turn up ready to contribute and take pride in doing the job properly.
· Careful and consistent: you can follow recipes, weights, timings and written instructions accurately.
· Practical and hands-on: you are comfortable working on your feet in a chilled food-production environment and handling meat products.
· A strong team player: you communicate clearly, support colleagues and stay calm when production is busy.
· Organised: you can manage several tasks while maintaining hygiene, traceability and attention to detail.
· Confident with numbers and systems: you have the basic numeracy and IT skills needed to record stock and production information.
· Keen to learn: previous butchery, meat or food-manufacturing experience is an advantage, but it is not essential.
