Full job description

Job Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self motivated Group Accountant to join our Finance Team, for a fixed one year contract to cover an internal secondment. Experienced in management accounting you will manage a small team supporting the Assistant Director for Finance to deliver deliver accurate reporting to management and the Director of Finance to ensure sound governance.

What will you be doing?

leading a small team in producing high quality revenue and capital monitoring
production of quarterly monitoring reports to be scrutinised by Strategic Leadership Team and Councillors
handle enquiries from budget holders and directors, providing strategic advice on budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes
Promoting strong financial governance and sharing best practice & support on legislative and guidance changes.
Identifying, developing and supporting opportunities and initiatives to transform the delivery of services across the Council, whilst promoting continuous improvement

About you

As an ideal candidate, you will have:

CCAB qualification or relevant experience and an excellent working knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines, and a concern for order and accuracy.
experience within a busy finance team, with a flexible approach to work, with a keenness to adapt and develop new ideas and initiatives to meet changing work requirements.
excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
enthusiastic and passionate about working in local government
excellent communication skills, including the ability to accurately summarise and convey complex information
