Job Title: Play Therapist
As a Play Therapist, you will be responsible for providing therapeutic interventions to children using play and creative activities to address emotional, behavioural, and mental health issues. Your role involves assessing children's needs, developing treatment plans, and implementing therapeutic techniques to facilitate healing and emotional growth. You will work closely with children, their families, and other healthcare professionals to support the overall well-being of the child.
Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of children's emotional and psychological needs through observation, interviews, and standardised assessments. Analyse assessment findings to develop individualised development plans tailored to each child's specific needs. Utilise play and creative activities as therapeutic tools to help children express their feelings, thoughts, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions to address a range of emotional and behavioral issues, such as anxiety, trauma, attachment disorders, and social difficulties. Employ evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including art, sand-play, storytelling, role-playing, and mindfulness, to promote emotional healing and development. Collaborate with children and their families to establish treatment goals and objectives based on assessment findings and therapeutic needs. Develop and implement structured treatment plans that incorporate play therapy techniques to address identified emotional and behavioural challenges. Monitor children's progress throughout the therapy process and adjust treatment plans as needed to support their ongoing development. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessment findings, treatment plans, therapy sessions, and progress notes in accordance with professional and legal standards. Prepare written reports and documentation for case reviews, summaries, and interdisciplinary team meetings as required. Collaborate with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and support children's overall well-being. Provide consultation and education to parents and caregivers on understanding and managing their child's emotional and behavioral challenges. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Certification or licensure as a Play Therapist (e.g., Registered Play Therapist, Certified Play Therapist) preferred. Prior experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting. Strong understanding of child development, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical standards and guidelines. As a Play Therapist, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional well-being and resilience of children and helping them overcome challenges to reach their full potential.
