Job Description
We are a boat building and marine engineering company seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Fitter to join our team. This hands-on role is ideal for a skilled mechanical fitter with strong marine, heavy plant, or industrial engineering experience who can lead by example, support junior team members, and deliver high-quality mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance work across new-build vessels and refit projects.
Key Responsibilities
· Work in full compliance with all company Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, setting a positive example for safe working practices.
· Lead and carry out the installation, alignment, and commissioning of engines, shafts, rudders, steering gear, and associated mechanical systems on new-build boats and marine vessels.
· Install, test, and commission hydraulic and pneumatic systems to the required specification.
· Diagnose complex faults and carry out effective repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for vessels undergoing servicing, refit, or repair.
· Provide technical support and guidance to fitters, apprentices, and other team members where required.
· Respond professionally to client call-outs for breakdowns and urgent mechanical issues, representing the company to a high standard.
· Complete customer service reports, job records, and relevant documentation accurately and on time.
· Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshops, yards, and onboard vessels.
· Carry out repair and maintenance of marine plant, propulsion equipment, and associated systems on client vessels.
· Support other trades and undertake additional tasks as required to meet project deadlines.
Candidate Requirements
· Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, marine engineering qualification, or equivalent proven experience.
· Strong experience in a mechanical fitting role, ideally within marine, heavy plant, industrial, or similar engineering environments.
· Proven ability to work on commercial engines, propulsion systems, mechanical assemblies, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and low-voltage electrical systems including 12v and 24v where relevant.
· Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, and installation specifications.
· Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and support team members to complete work to a high standard.
· Capable of working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced, challenging marine engineering environment.
· Strong fault-finding skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship.
· Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to complete service reports and communicate clearly with colleagues and clients.
Positive, flexible approach with a willingness to support wider workshop, yard, and vessel-based operations when needed.
Pay: £17.14-£19.85 per hour
