About The Role
The Quality Control (QC) role reports directly to the Operations/Production Manager, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Technical Team.
Working closely with the production teams, the role is responsible for ensuring that food safety and quality standards are consistently maintained throughout the production process—from ingredient intake and processing through to finished product dispatch. The role also involves maintaining accurate and up-to-date quality and safety documentation to support compliance and continuous improvement.
Location: Bicester, Oxfordshire
As a Quality Controller, your key responsibilities will be:
-
Ensure production and storage areas meet the required hygiene standards and that all equipment is clean, safe and in good working order before production commences. Report any non-compliances to the Team Leaders for resolution prior to the start of production.
-
Complete all opening safety and quality checks, including, but not limited to, environmental and food temperatures, label verification, Critical Control Points (CCPs), recipe cards and plating cards.
-
Ensure all team members comply with good hygiene practices, including personal hygiene, food safety and allergen segregation, in accordance with company standards. Counter-sign safety and quality checks completed by operators once verified.
-
Monitor and record safety and quality standards throughout the production day, including, but not limited to, CCPs, correct product composition and plating, WIP ingredient quality, final product weights, ingredient/WIP/finished product temperatures and packaging integrity.
-
Review the completion of traceability documentation to ensure it meets company standards. Raise any non-compliances with the Team Leaders for appropriate resolution.
-
Liaise with Team Leaders to ensure consistently high standards of hygiene are maintained throughout the operation.
-
Supervise end-of-production close-down and cleaning activities, ensuring they are completed in accordance with company standards. Escalate any non-compliances to the Team Leaders for resolution.
-
Oversee the goods-out process, ensuring all products meet the required safety, quality and traceability standards.
-
Collate, review and file safety and quality documentation in accordance with company requirements.
-
Monitor ingredients held in storage to ensure they remain compliant with required safety, quality, storage and traceability standards. Report any non-compliances to the Team Leaders for resolution.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused individual who is passionate about maintaining high standards of food safety, quality and hygiene throughout the production operation.
-
Have a strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and quality standards, preferably within a food manufacturing or production environment.
-
Be confident in monitoring and maintaining compliance with company procedures, identifying issues and escalating non-compliances appropriately.
-
Have excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify potential safety, quality, hygiene and traceability risks before they impact production.
-
Be confident completing and reviewing safety and quality checks, CCPs, temperature checks, traceability records and other relevant documentation.
-
Understand the importance of allergen management, personal hygiene, food handling and segregation controls.
-
Be comfortable working closely with Team Leaders and production operators to maintain consistently high standards.
-
Have the ability to challenge non-compliance professionally and constructively, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
-
Be organised and capable of maintaining accurate records and documentation.
-
Have a hands-on approach and be willing to work within a fast-paced production environment.
-
Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across the operation.
-
Be able to work with a high level of integrity, accountability and consistency, ensuring company standards are maintained throughout the production day.
-
Ideally hold, or be willing to work towards, relevant Food Safety, HACCP or quality-related qualifications.
