Highview Power Carrington – LAES Project (FOAK)
50 MW / 300 MWh Liquid Air Energy Storage Facility | Greater Manchester

First‑of‑a‑kind, commercial‑scale greenfield delivery of a 50 MW / 300 MWh Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) facility, supporting long‑duration energy storage and the UK’s net‑zero transition.

The project utilises proprietary LAES technology, converting surplus renewable electricity into stored liquid air, with later pressurisation and reheating to drive turbines for electricity generation.

Role / Scope (Bilfinger UK):

Principal contractor for Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation (MEI) construction, including structural steelwork
Delivery of complex, safety‑critical systems within a novel technology environment
Working within a large high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary integrated delivery team on a technically challenging FOAK scheme

A landmark project combining innovation, engineering excellence, and collaboration to deliver one of the UK’s most advanced energy storage assets.

As a Materials Controller, your activities will include the following, but are not limited to:

To lead and oversee a team responsible for the management and distribution of materials on and off site
To liaise with the client team to ensure timely delivery of free issue materials in line with the project schedule
To provide the primary site / warehouse interface for the site’s materials management
Responsible for the day-to-day materials control that meets site planned objectives and in compliance with Project Materials Procedure
Responsible for Manifests / Requisitions / Repairs / Rentals / Stockholding
Responsible for highlighting data base issues to the support team, also purchasing and warehousing
Promote alignment and adherence of client inventory processes to site personnel
Ensuring that facilities are in place and used for the storage of any hazardous material and that environmental protection and clean up measures are in place
Distribution of materials from the warehouse to site in accordance with the construction requirements
Liaise with the site supervision to ensure correct placement of materials as they are distributed from the project warehouse
Maintain / update temporary equipment register in accordance with site procedure
Demonstrate a personal commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment
Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Safety Management Systems to all aspects of the logistics process
Participate in site/platform Planning meetings to understand materials distribution priorities
Carry out site inspections to ensure that materials are being utilised at the locations defined by end users and not being degraded by non-

usage/inadequate storage

Skills & Qualifications

Good communication skills required
Good interpersonal skills required as part of a large project team
Suitable IT skills – MS Office
Self motivated to achieve client deadlines
