National Grid is hiring a QA Engineer to join our Technology team. This role can be based at our Warwick, Bristol, or Cardiff offices, with hybrid working, and you’ll also have access to our London co‑working space if that fits your working pattern.

You’ll play a key role in leading quality assurance practices and ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, and high‑quality systems and platforms that support critical operations across our enterprise.

Job Purpose

The UTOC (Unified Technology Operations Center) Team is the first point of contact resolving network break/ fix issues, managing tickets, and building KPI reports. The Lead Networks Engineer in this position is required to work in a team environment, under limited supervision and reports to the UTOC Manager. Due to the nature of UTOC's 24x7 support business, the Lead Networks Engineer will be on site for network surveillance, event management, and collaboration.

UTOC Team provides communication, information, and resolution on all network related events to management and our internal customers. As the third tier of event management; the UTOC Lead Network Engineer's goal is to lead the Associate Engineer, Engineer I, and Engineer II in providing an efficient and effective response to Network issues via triage, escalation, resolution, and follow-up.

Key Accountabilities

Â· Ability to prioritize alarms and incidents in order to fulfil SLA commitments

Â· Deliver proactive technology monitoring and implement corrective action to ensure optimal performance.

Â· To provide diagnostics and technical updates on incidents to other members of the operations and engineering teams and senior management.

Â· Identify opportunities to improve processes and sponsor the introduction of system changes to improve efficiency.

Â· Work well within our UTOC team and have the ability to work shift pattern.

Â· Proactively monitor technology solutions to ensure events are captured and resolved before they become an incident, whilst in the event of a major service outage, liaise with all relevant departments to undertake emergency fault diagnostics to resolution.

Â· Escalate issues to Senior Staff/Shift Lead/Shift Manager

Â· Perform incident documentation by creating tickets. Incident documentation includes selection of the affected party, prioritization of the incident, filling in the mandatory fields such as type and time of incident and a brief description.

Â· Update internal customers and management regarding the status of their inquiries or issues

Â· Research and resolve issues such as documentation requests, repeat issues, customer follow-up as appropriate, recommend any process improvements and provide shift turn over status.

Â· Be the front line to UTOC's technical support staff by coordinating and routing incidents, calls and tickets

Â· Monitor the alarm activity through the Network Management - monitoring system

Â· Track incidents where applicable to verify that response times and availability requirements established in the SLA are met.

Â· Create and update tickets with 100% accuracy, following established procedures

Qualifications

Â· Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience

Â· Typically 3 - 6 years of experience in position. Bachelors Degree may be required.

Â· In depth experience in a highly technical field or in multiple, related fields. Has the ability to initiate and complete projects with minimal guidance from others. Has thorough knowledge of all procedures, transactions and practices in one process. Has a working knowledge of the remaining area's processes.

Â· Independently determines / develops approach to solutions.

Â· Demonstrates willingness to research inquiries and follow-up to ensure completion. Can explain complex information clearly to supervisors or subordinates. Maintains a relationship with counterparts within and external to the industry to obtain and share information. Individual success depends on effective communication.

Competitive Salary: circa £48,000 – £60,000 per annum (based on capability, and experience)

This role can be based at our Warwick, Bristol, or Cardiff offices, with hybrid working - and you’ll also have access to our London co‑working space if that location suits your working pattern.
Every quarter, you’ll attend a 2–3 day in‑person planning event held at one of our office locations.
This role is offered on a full time basis.
