Full job description

We are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our specialist team providing support for Looked After Children in residential care. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Assistant Psychologists and care teams, delivering direct therapeutic support and contributing to the ongoing development of our growing highly specialised services. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, a reflective mindset, and a commitment to ethical, person-centred practice.

Location: Principally located in the South of Wales. The successful applicant will need to be able to travel to a range of locations including South Wales around Tredegar and Cardiff.

Hours: Full-time or Part Time (Up to 37.5 hours per week, excluding travel) 12 month maternity cover contract

About Studio III Clinical Services

Studio III Clinical Services is a values-led organisation providing personalised, community-based psychological support to Looked After Children in Residential Care, individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, and complex needs. Operating across the UK and Ireland as well as further afield, our goal is to create safe, supportive, and restriction-free environments where people can live meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Our services are grounded in the Low Arousal Approach, a non-confrontational, trauma-informed method of supporting behaviours of concern and we are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams. Our SSRR (Safety, Stability, Repair, Resilience) approach to working with Looked After Children is well established and associated with reduced placement breakdown and significantly improved outcomes for children and young people in residential care.

You will:

● Assist in psychological assessments and interventions

● Provide 1:1 therapeutic support

● Contribute to behaviour and support planning

● Work collaboratively with clients, their families, carers and staff teams

● Participate in reflective supervision and ongoing professional development

Essential Criteria

● Undergraduate degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1 classification)

● Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

● A minimum of one year’s experience working as an Assistant Psychologist within the NHS or equivalent

Independent Sector.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Excellent time management skills

● Full clean driving license and access to a vehicle

Desirable

● Previous experience in applied or clinical psychology settings, ideally in the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) including working with Looked After Children and their carers AND/OR prior experience as a Support Worker within residential childcare services.

● Prior experience of using psychometric testing materials such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children and the Adaptive Behaviour Assessment Scale.
