Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to join our leadership team and play a key role in the day-to-day management and future growth of the business.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the company's operational activities, ensuring contracts are delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly, and profitably.
This is a senior management position that requires a strong leader capable of managing multiple departments, driving accountability, improving processes, and ensuring operational excellence across the business.
The successful candidate will lead the coordination of contract delivery, workforce planning, procurement activities, compliance processes, customer relationships, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the business
- Monitor operational performance against company objectives
- Identify and implement operational improvements and efficiencies
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration across departments
- Support the delivery of business growth and strategic objectives
- Provide leadership, guidance, and accountability across operational teams
Contract & Service Delivery Management
- Oversee the successful delivery of client contracts and service agreements
- Monitor contract performance, KPIs, and service standards
- Manage customer escalations and operational issues
- Support client retention and contract growth opportunities
- Review operational performance and resource allocation across contracts
Workforce Management
- Oversee the effective utilisation of engineers and subcontractors
- Support workforce planning and resource management
- Monitor productivity, performance, and operational delivery
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and employee development
- Ensure teams have the tools, training, and support required to perform effectively
Scheduling & Resource Planning
- Oversee operational planning and resource allocation
- Review engineer capacity and workload forecasts
- Support the effective delivery of planned, reactive, and remedial works
- Identify and resolve scheduling challenges and operational bottlenecks
Procurement & Tender Management
- Support procurement and tendering activities across the business
- Monitor public and private sector tender opportunities
- Assist in the preparation and submission of tender responses
- Coordinate information from operational, financial, and compliance departments
- Manage procurement records and tender trackers
- Support supplier and subcontractor procurement activities
- Demonstrate an understanding of public sector procurement principles and framework agreements
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Support the commercial performance of the business
- Monitor contract profitability and operational costs
- Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting
- Support invoicing, valuations, and debt management processes
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability
Compliance, SHEQ & Accreditation Management
- Support the delivery of the company's Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) objectives
- Assist with accreditation submissions and renewals including CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline and similar schemes
- Support internal and external audits
- Monitor compliance actions and improvement plans
- Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the business
- Ensure operational systems, records, and documentation are maintained to a high standard
About You
Essential Requirements
✔ Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Service Manager, or similar leadership role
✔ Strong people management and leadership skills
✔ Excellent organisational and planning abilities
✔ Commercial awareness and financial understanding
✔ Experience managing admin teams and field-based workforces
✔ Strong communication and problem-solving skills
✔ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
✔ Knowledge of SHEQ principles and compliance management
✔ Experience supporting accreditations such as CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline, ISO or similar
✔ Understanding of procurement and tender processes
Desirable
✔ Experience within Water Hygiene, Compliance, Facilities Management, Building Services, Engineering, M&E or Property Services sectors
✔ Experience working with local authority or public sector contracts
✔ Knowledge of public procurement regulations and framework agreements
✔ Experience using Joblogic or similar service management software

Pay: £45,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
