Full job description

We are looking for a Lead Category Buyer – OTC & Health & Beauty to lead the sourcing and purchasing of products across the GSL, P, Health & Beauty, and POM categories from UK manufacturers.

Your primary focus will be ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining cost efficiency, securing product availability, and supporting revenue growth.

You will develop strong supplier relationships, identify new sourcing opportunities, and work closely with internal teams including Warehouse, Trading, and Commercial Pricing, to align procurement activity with company growth targets.

Key Responsibilities

Supplier Management:

Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers across the UK.
Leverage supplier sales networks to increase turnover through transfer order networks.
Lead annual joint business planning with manufacturers, focusing on sales growth, new product launches, seasonality, CPI management, and margin improvement.

Trading key account management:

Develop and manage long-term relationships with key accounts.
Identify client needs and business opportunities to increase sales.
Serve as the lead point of contact for all key account matters.
Develop customised solutions and proposals for clients.
Achieve assigned sales targets and outcomes within schedule.
Monitor account performance, report on KPIs, and suggest improvements.
Work cross-functionally with internal teams (e.g., Sales, Operations, Finance) to ensure client satisfaction.
Negotiate contracts and close agreements to maximise profits.
Address client issues and provide solutions in a timely manner.
Stay updated on industry trends, competitors, and market conditions.

Sourcing & Portfolio Growth

Research, identify, and onboard new suppliers and products, including POM lines
Monitor pricing trends, shortages, and supplier performance
Optimise sourcing strategy and ensure product continuity

Revenue & Compliance

Manage monthly promotion and rebate income (including transfer orders) in line with forecasts
Grow trading customer portfolio and achieve sales and margin targets
Ensure full compliance with MHRA and relevant regulatory requirements

Team Leadership

Lead, manage, and develop the procurement team
Set clear objectives and drive accountability and performance
Foster a high-performance culture and ensure adherence to company policies
Allocate resources effectively to maximise efficiency and results

Person Specification

Essential

Proven experience in category procurement, ideally within OTC, Health & Beauty, or related sectors
Strong negotiation, relationship management, and strategic sourcing skills
Experience building and managing teams
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to analyse pricing trends and market data
Knowledge of MHRA regulations and healthcare product compliance
Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the UK

Desirable

Knowledge of Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
