Contract /Hours: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Salary range: Up to £65,889.70 per annum DOE inclusive of regional pay allowance plus unsocial working hours allowance

HSL was formed to provide pathology services to the NHS Trusts and has expanded further to provide services to other NHS Trusts. Over 3,500 staff work at Sonic Healthcare UK, primarily under the TDL or HSL banner.

Our purpose is to deliver medically-led diagnostics, innovation, value and long-term investment to healthcare. With our core laboratory based at The Halo Building in London WC1H 9AX, we also have an expanding site in Manchester as well as smaller hospital-based laboratories across the country. We maintain rigorously high standards of quality, whilst also delivering efficiencies to healthcare through careful workforce planning, pioneering technology and significant investment in infrastructure and IT.

Due to the nature of work that Sonic Healthcare UK undertakes, our clients require that Employees filling certain roles, need, as part of their on-boarding to complete a DBS Check. This role falls into the category of requiring a DBS check (standard).

About the role:

An opportunity has arisen for a full time, night shift, Biomedical Scientist to join the team at the new Hertfordshire and West Essex HWE Hub, who will be providing Biochemistry and Haematology analysis and reporting. The post holder must use a combination of technical knowledge and skills to ensure that appropriate sample testing is performed safely, accurately and in a timely manner, for every patient, every time, while maintaining the sites contracted performance for turn around times TATs. Whilst experience in both Biochemistry and Haematology is desirable, solid knowledge of one area is essential, and further training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate is competent and confident for all night duty tasks.

The Hub offers state of the art processes, analytics, and pre-analytics. When fully operational, following transition of all sites across the HWE Network, the Hub will process 15,000 samples per day. The successful candidate will join our team of dedicated Biomedical scientists and lab support staff in delivering a high-quality pathology service. We are looking for someone who is positive, proactive and attention to detail is essential.

An important aspect of this role is the continual professional development and keeping up to date with their departmental training. This will involve working closely with the Training Officer to ensure competency and training is maintained to the required standard, which will include daytime training sessions.

The HWE Hub is not yet operational and as a new laboratory the ideal candidate will need to be adaptable to a changing environment, committed to service excellence and have a genuine desire for continued personal and professional development.

The HWE Hub will operate a 24/7 service, the successful candidate will be rostered to work 3 nights shifts per week to cover their 37.5hrs. The post holder will initially work core hours whilst in training but required, once trained and competent, to move onto the 3 nights per week shift pattern.
