Full job description

We are seeking an experienced, organised and reliable Business Manager to support the smooth running of our community centre.
Core hours: 40 per month (with the expectation of averaging 50–60 hours per month depending on the needs of the centre and seasonal demands).
This is a responsible and varied role, ideal for someone with strong administrative, people management and compliance experience who is confident working with trustees, staff, hirers, contractors and members of the local community..

About the Role

The successful candidate will manage a small number of staff and oversee the day-to-day business and operational needs of the centre. A key part of the role will be helping to review and update compliance arrangements, health and safety, policies, procedures and statutory requirements, management of events, risk assessments and budget control.

Key Duties

Line manage staff, including support, supervision and coordination of workloads. Work with the Trustees to ensure the centre is well run, welcoming, safe and financially sustainable. Support the trustees in meeting relevant Charity Commission, governance and reporting requirements. Attend trustee meetings approximately every six weeks and provide updates, reports and recommendations as required. Oversee building use, maintenance issues and general centre administration. Liaise with contractors, service providers, centre users, volunteers and community groups. Identify where specialist advice or trustee support is required and be confident asking for help. Contribute to improving systems, processes and compliance arrangements across the centre.

About You

Practical, trustworthy, well organised and able to work with a good degree of independence Comfortable taking responsibility, prioritising tasks and working constructively with trustees and staff

The ideal candidate will have

Experience in business, office, operations or facilities management, ideally within a charity, community organisation or similar setting Experience of managing staff or coordinating a small team A good working knowledge of charity administration, governance and compliance requirements or a willingness to learn. Up-to-date understanding of health and safety responsibilities, risk assessments and safe building management, desirable, or a willingness to learn IT literate, and able to learn new systems ie budgeting and booking systems Strong organisational, communication and record-keeping skills The ability to work flexibly, including other agreed commitments outside regular working hours A positive, community-minded approach and willingness to seek guidance where specialist input is needed.
will be some on call duties so need to live within a 20 minute drive of the centre.
