Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and Experienced Groundworker thats looking for the next step in their carreer by joining our team as a Groundworks Apprenticeship Assessor. This role is to assess learners’ theory/practical skills, knowledge and competence in groundworks operations, ensuring all assessments meet City & Guilds standards and qualification requirements. The role involves supporting learners throughout their training, carrying out workplace assessments and reviews, providing constructive feedback, maintaining accurate records, and promoting safe working practices while working closely with employers and candidates.

Duties

Observe candidates carrying out groundwork activities on-site.
Assess practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours against qualification standards.
Ensure learners meet the performance criteria for City & Guilds apprenticeship standards.
Visit construction sites and training locations.
Carry out planned assessments safely and professionally.
Use observation, questioning, witness testimonies, and work products as evidence.
Check learner portfolios for: Site documentation, Method statements,Risk assessments, Photographic evidence, Job records
Ensure evidence is authentic, current, sufficient, and valid.
Give constructive feedback after assessments.
Identify gaps in performance or knowledge.
Support learners in achieving qualification requirements.
Follow awarding body requirements from City & Guilds
Adhere to internal quality assurance (IQA) procedures.
Coordinate with site managers, supervisors, and tutors.
Arrange assessment visits and progress reviews.
Monitor learner progression and attendance.
Attend standardisation meetings, CPD sessions, and team meetings.
Maintain accurate learner records and documentation in line with compliance standards.
Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience and Knowledge

Extensive groundworks/construction site experience
Knowledge of drainage, concreting, excavation, paving and utilities
Strong understanding of health & safety regulations
Experience supervising or mentoring workers/apprentices
Ability to assess practical skills and workplace competence
Organised, reliable and punctual
Patient and supportive attitude towards learners
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Fair, professional and consistent approach to assessment
Able to complete accurate paperwork and digital records
Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
Basic IT skills for online portfolios and reporting

Required Qualifications

Groundworks or Construction Qualifications
CSCS card and construction safety qualifications

Desirable Qualifications

CITB SMSTS or SSSTS qualification
CPCS or NPORS plant operation qualifications
First Aid at Work certificate desirable
Relevant health & safety training and certifications
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET/PTLLS)

Pay: £35,000.00 per year
