Overview
We are looking for a reliable, organised and practical Laboratory Porter to support the day-to-day running of our laboratory and operational areas.
This is a hands-on support role. It is not a scientist, researcher or technical development position and the successful candidate will help keep the laboratories stocked, clean, organised and operating efficiently, working closely with laboratory, operations and engineering colleagues.
We are open to this being a part-time role worked across five days, as the role is designed to provide regular daily support to the laboratory teams.
Important: No science qualification is required for this role. Practical reliability, organisation and attention to detail are more important than scientific qualifications.
What this role entails
- Receiving, checking, unpacking and storing deliveries.
- Re-stocking laboratory consumables and maintaining accurate stock records.
- Supporting purchase requisitions by gathering basic information such as stock levels, supplier details, quotes and order requirements.
- Washing laboratory glassware and plasticware.
- Supporting sterilisation of materials where required, following agreed procedures.
- Keeping laboratory support areas clean, organised and ready for use.
- Supporting safe storage and disposal of laboratory waste, including hazardous waste, in line with company procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records for consumables, orders, waste storage and basic assets.
- Reporting shortages, damaged items, housekeeping issues or equipment concerns to the relevant team member.
- Working safely and following company policies, health and safety requirements and laboratory procedures.
Objectives
- Maintain accurate records of orders, laboratory consumables, basic assets and hazardous waste storage.
- Support daily laboratory operations by replenishing stock, washing laboratory glassware/plasticware and supporting sterilisation tasks where required.
- Ensure equipment and support areas are ready for use by carrying out routine checks and reporting issues to the relevant team member.
- Work closely with colleagues to maintain a professional, clean, organised and safe working environment.

- Previous experience in a laboratory, stores, warehouse, production, cleaning, hygiene, healthcare, food manufacturing or similar controlled working environment.
- Experience with stock control, ordering, goods-in, housekeeping or waste handling.
