Full job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Team Leader to support the Registered Manager in building a motivated, nurturing and child-focused team within our children’s home. At the heart of our service is a commitment to ensuring that every child and young person feels safe, valued and supported to reach their full potential. We work with children who may have experienced trauma and emotional or behavioural challenges, and through the use of therapeutic principles, we aim to help them develop resilience, overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes in all areas of their lives.

As a Team Leader, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the home, supporting the delivery of high-quality care and ensuring a stable and supportive environment for both young people and staff. You will lead by example, inspiring and guiding a team of Therapeutic Support Mentors to build meaningful relationships with children, promote positive behaviours and create a culture of consistency, warmth and respect. You will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home operates in line with Ofsted Regulations and Quality Standards, maintaining a strong focus on safeguarding and the wellbeing of everyone within the service.

The role requires a strong understanding of attachment and trauma-informed practice, alongside the ability to respond to the individual needs of young people with empathy, patience and professionalism. You will contribute to care planning, support staff development, and help ensure that the home provides a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment where young people can thrive. You will also take part in an on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support when required, and ensure that all policies, procedures and safeguarding responsibilities are consistently followed.

We are looking for someone with experience in children’s residential care who is confident in leading a team and committed to delivering high standards of care. You will be an effective communicator, able to build positive relationships with young people, colleagues and external professionals, and demonstrate a solution-focused approach in managing challenges. A commitment to ongoing professional development is essential, and a Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care or Leadership and Management for Children and Young People, or a willingness to work towards this, would be advantageous. This role is working on the ground with our children, some weekend and evening work will be essential, however not a regular expectation.
