Prep IT Lead (with classroom support)

Cheltenham College is seeking an experienced and customer-focused IT Technician to provide dedicated technology support within our Prep School.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional with a strong understanding of educational technology to play a key role in supporting teaching and learning within one of the UK's leading independent schools. We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked within an educational environment and understand the importance of delivering responsive, high-quality IT support to both teaching staff and pupils. Applications from individuals with previous experience as an IT Teacher, Education Technology Specialist or school-based IT professional are particularly welcomed.
As the dedicated IT presence within the Prep School, you will become a trusted partner to colleagues, providing responsive day-to-day technical support while helping to ensure technology is used effectively across the school. Working closely with the wider College IT Department, you will contribute to maintaining a reliable, secure and modern technology environment that supports excellent educational outcomes.
The role extends beyond traditional technical support. It requires someone who enjoys building relationships, understands the demands of a busy school environment and can confidently advise and support colleagues in their day-to-day use of technology. You will have the opportunity to influence the user experience, promote best practice and contribute to the continued development of IT services across the College.
The successful candidate will join a well-established and collaborative IT Department supporting a diverse technology estate, including Apple and Microsoft platforms, classroom technologies and a range of digital learning systems.
Salary: £25,000–£30,000 per annum (full-time equivalent), depending on skills and experience.
Hours
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
We are open to discussing term-time-plus, annualised hours or other flexible working arrangements, provided the core Prep School support pattern of 08:00–16:00, Monday to Friday during term time can be maintained.
Occasional Saturday morning support is required as part of the IT Support rota. Planned work during school holiday periods will also be required to support device refresh programmes, classroom readiness and wider IT projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated first and second-line IT support for staff and pupils within the Prep School.
- Ensure classroom technology, staff devices, printers, audio-visual equipment and digital learning systems are maintained to a consistently high standard.
- Build strong working relationships with teaching and support staff, delivering responsive technical support and practical advice that enables effective teaching and learning.
- Configure, deploy and maintain Apple Macs, iPads, Windows devices and associated peripherals.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve a broad range of technical issues, escalating more complex incidents where appropriate.
- Support school events, performances and other activities requiring technical assistance.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider College IT Department to maintain and continually improve IT services.
- Contribute to the security, resilience and effective management of the College's IT infrastructure and equipment
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be an experienced IT professional who combines strong technical capability with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Essential:
- Experience providing IT support within a school, college or comparable educational environment.
- Excellent technical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across Apple and Microsoft technologies.
- Strong understanding of classroom technologies and the practical application of IT within teaching and learning.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to support colleagues at all levels.
- A proactive, organised and solution-focused approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative IT team.
Desirable:
- Previous experience as an IT Teacher or supporting educational technology within a teaching environment.
- Experience managing Apple devices through Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, Intune or similar enterprise technologies.
- Relevant IT qualifications or industry certifications.
