Role description

Lead Android Engineer – Mobile Platform (Kotlin / Android SDK)

Leeds (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite)
Start: ASAP
Employment Type: Fixed Term Employment/ Contract Inside IR35

About the Role

We are looking for a Lead Android Engineer to drive technical design and delivery across our mobile platform.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, where you will take ownership of Android architecture, lead proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives, and build high-performance, secure, and scalable mobile applications.

You will work closely with engineering teams, product stakeholders, and architects to define best practices and deliver robust mobile solutions that support business-critical use cases.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead Android technical design and architecture, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions
Drive POC development and innovation initiatives, validating new approaches and technologies
Develop and enhance high-performance Android applications using modern frameworks
Define and implement best practices in security, performance, and code quality
Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end mobile solutions
Collaborate with architects and technical leaders to align with enterprise engineering standards
Troubleshoot and optimise applications for performance, scalability, and user experience
Support continuous improvement through code reviews, mentoring, and technical guidance

What You’ll Bring

Minimum of 5 years of experience in Android development
Strong hands-on expertise with:
- Android SDK
- Kotlin (preferred) / Java
Solid understanding of:
- Mobile architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture)
- Application security and performance optimisation
- API integration and mobile backend interaction
Experience leading technical design and POC implementation
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in agile delivery environments
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
