Programme Manager
Role Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, AMP Procurement Ltd require a Programme Manager to take charge of a portfolio of interrelated projects with a large variation in scale, from low-value (£50K) simple projects lasting a few weeks, up to large (£1M+) complex projects lasting several years. This role builds on core project management discipline with programme-level oversight, coordinating multiple concurrent projects, and embeds the use of Claude and other AI-assisted platforms as a core working method to enhance planning, reporting, risk management and decision-making across the programme.
Key Responsibilities
This role involves taking ownership of a programme of projects through their full lifecycle, using AI-assisted tools to increase the speed, accuracy and consistency of programme management activity. Key responsibilities are:
- Manage a portfolio of projects through an end-to-end programme lifecycle, ensuring alignment between individual project plans and overall programme objectives.
- Monitor overall programme and project progress, resolving risks and issues and initiating corrective action plans, using AI-assisted platforms (e.g. Claude) to identify emerging risks earlier from status reports, RAID logs and correspondence.
- Act as the central point of liaison and coordination with all stakeholders throughout the programme lifecycle, including liaising with customers, keeping management informed on progress, planning project lifecycles with the design department and manufacturing, and ensuring all stakeholders are aware of programme and project status at all times.
- Planning and organising the resource required to execute the projects within the programme, including balancing competing resource demands across multiple concurrent projects.
- Deliver on time, on budget, on quality Programme and Project Management across the full portfolio.
- Ensure best-practice technical, logistical and commercial direction is always in place for programme and project delivery, including ownership of budgetary constraints through programme and project planning.
- Perceive problems well in advance and consider the broad range of commercial and technical factors in assessing the situation, identifying possible solutions and implementing approved solutions, using AI-assisted analysis to support scenario planning and options appraisal.
- Take ownership of technical and programme documentation required to successfully deliver the portfolio, including programme plans/Gantt charts, project plans, action trackers, management plans, manuals and other technical authoring, using Claude and similar AI tools to draft, structure and quality-check documentation efficiently.
- Use AI-assisted platforms to prepare clear, concise progress reports, executive summaries and stakeholder communications, ensuring outputs are reviewed and validated before issue.
- Provide support to other projects and project managers where required, sharing good practice in the use of AI-assisted tools for planning, reporting and risk management.
- Lead and support continuous improvement of internal procedures, especially in programme and project management, including identifying opportunities to responsibly adopt AI-assisted platforms to improve efficiency and consistency.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following key skills and experience:
- Must be capable of motivating the project support team(s) across the programme to achieve project and programme success.
- Excellent written and verbal communicator at all levels to negotiate best outcomes internally and with customers.
- Must have high levels of competence in Programme and Project Management, including effective utilisation of resource teams across multiple concurrent projects.
- Demonstrable ability to prioritise and differentiate programme and project tasks and sales support requests within a complex and conflicting environment.
- Practical, confident user of Claude or similar AI-assisted platforms (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) for tasks such as drafting reports and correspondence, summarising documentation, structuring project plans, supporting risk analysis, and improving the quality and consistency of programme outputs.
- Sound judgement in the appropriate and responsible use of AI-assisted tools, including verifying AI-generated content for accuracy, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive commercial and customer information, and applying professional oversight to all AI-supported outputs.
- Willingness to learn and adopt new AI-assisted platforms and features as they are introduced, and to support colleagues in doing the same.
- Experience in a similar role, having also performed at lower levels in technical project delivery on which this role builds.
- A qualification in Project or Programme Management is required.
- A formal Project or Programme Management qualification such as PMI, PRINCE2, MSP or similar is an advantage.
- Previous Project and/or Programme Management experience is essential.
- Must be capable of occasionally working outside normal working hours to meet customer project requests as required, and must be available for occasional site/customer visits as needed.
- Fluent in English, and proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and AI-assisted platforms such as Claude.
- UK driver's licence.
- Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete DBS and BPSS security checks.

The Package
Position is full-time, based in Glasgow. Salary negotiable depending on experience, 4.5-day week (37.5 hours) with the option for some home working, 28 days holiday, free parking, company bonus and pension scheme.
