Gas Engineer / Heating Engineer — Train into Heat Pumps — Whitehaven, Cumbria
£33,000–£43,000 + company van + pension
Full-time · Based in Whitehaven · Jobs across West Cumbria and the Lake District
We install and maintain air-source heat pumps, solar and battery systems alongside conventional gas and central heating across Cumbria. We're looking for a Gas Safe registered engineer — or a strong heating engineer ready to qualify — who wants to add heat pump skills to their trade. You'll work on a mix of gas and renewable heating jobs from day one, and we'll fund the manufacturer courses and formal training to make you a dual-skilled Renewables & Heating Engineer.
Heat pumps are where domestic heating is going; this is the chance to get there early without giving up the gas work you know.
What your week looks like
- Installing and commissioning air-source heat pumps and gas heating systems, domestic and light commercial
- Maintenance, testing and compliance checks to MCS and Gas Safe standards
- Working alongside our electrical and design teams on full-system installs
- Completing service reports and handover documentation, and looking after customers properly on site
What you need
- Gas Safe registration with current ACS qualifications (CCN1 plus relevant appliance categories), or NVQ Level 2/3 in plumbing and heating with solid domestic heating experience and willingness to complete gas or heat pump qualifications with our support
- Strong understanding of wet heating systems, controls and fault-finding
- 2+ years' hands-on experience in heating or plumbing
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- Within commuting distance of Whitehaven, or willing to relocate
What we'd love but will train
- Heat pump experience
- G3 unvented
- Underfloor heating experience
- Water regulations (WRAS)
No renewables experience is needed. The training is the point of this role — we'll fund the courses and give you the site experience to use them.
Why this role instead of staying where you are
- Future-proof your trade: funded heat pump training and manufacturer accreditation while gas work still pays the bills — dual-skilled engineers are becoming the most employable people in heating
- Local work: Cumbria and the Lakes, home every night
- A growing, well-run company: MCS accredited, strong manufacturer ties, full order book
- Company van, pension, global travel insurance
