About the role

We’re seeking a warm, creative Activities Coordinator to design and deliver a meaningful programme for residents, including those living with dementia. You will use your Asian language skills to communicate effectively with residents where English isn’t their first language, ensuring activities are inclusive and culturally appropriate.

Key responsibilities

Plan, organise, and deliver a varied, person-centred timetable (group and 1:1), tailored to life histories, preferences, cultural backgrounds, and care plans.
Facilitate activities that promote physical, cognitive, social, and emotional wellbeing (e.g., music, arts and crafts, reminiscence, gardening, gentle exercise, intergenerational links, faith-based observance, community outings).
Use Asian language skills to engage residents translate activity materials or prompts where helpful, and support culturally familiar activities (e.g., festivals, music, cuisine, faith practices).
Complete activity assessments and create activity care plans; record participation, outcomes, and feedback in line with policies.
Work closely with care, catering, housekeeping, and relatives to embed activities into daily routines.
Build links with local community groups, schools, faith organisations, libraries, and volunteers; coordinate external entertainers and events within budget.
Adapt sessions to varied needs, including dementia-friendly approaches, sensory stimulation, communication aids, and mobility support.
Arrange and oversee outings, including risk assessments, transport, permissions, and staffing ratios.
Maintain safe, tidy activity spaces; manage supplies and petty cash appropriately.
Contribute to reviews, handovers, and multidisciplinary meetings; escalate wellbeing concerns promptly.
Ensure compliance with CQC fundamental standards, safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention and control, and data protection (UK GDPR).

About you

Compassionate, patient, and resident-focused, with strong communication skills in English and at least one Asian language (e.g., Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil).
Understanding of dementia and how to support people living with dementia through meaningful occupation, reminiscence, and validation.
Creative planner and confident facilitator who can motivate groups and engage individuals 1:1.
Able to tailor activities for diverse needs (dementia, limited mobility, hearing/vision impairments, or communication differences).
Organised and reliable, with good record-keeping and basic IT skills (email, calendars, video calls, digital photos).
Comfortable working some weekends, bank holidays, and occasional evenings.

Essential criteria

Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one Asian language relevant to our residents.
Experience delivering activities, events, therapy support, education, or community engagement.
Knowledge of dementia-friendly communication and activity adaptation; willingness to undertake further dementia training.
Understanding of person-centred care, dignity, safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
Basic risk assessment awareness; able to follow H&S and infection prevention procedures.
Right to work in the UK and satisfactory enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable criteria

Experience in older people’s services and/or dementia care.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care, Activity Provision, Dementia Care, or equivalent).
First Aid; Moving & Assisting/Manual Handling.
Full UK driving licence and confidence arranging/escorting trips.
