Young Person’s Community Counsellor

Hours: 30 hours per week. Face-to-face Counselling. Working hours will mainly be afternoon/early evening. Typical counselling hours are Monday to Thursday 10-6 pm or 12pm to 8pm, with a minimum of 2 x 12pm to 8pm. Community Engagement work would include some weekend work. We would require the post holder to work a flexible week when weekend work is required.
Salary: £29,640 pro rated increasing to £30,127 pro rated after successful completion of the probationary period per annum
Term: Permanent
Holidays: 25 days per annum, plus bank holidays (pro rata)
Location: Face-to-face work at Visyon Crewe base, The Dome and possible other outreach locations in the locality of South and South-East Cheshire
Reporting to: Therapy Services Manager / Community Team Leader
Visyon supports the emotional health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families through the provision of a range of services, including one-to-one counselling, group work, mentoring and family support work.
As a counsellor and member of the Visyon team, the postholder will provide a wide range of time-bound, outcome-focused therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families including one to one counselling.
As a Young Person’s Community Counsellor, you will be required to attend local events to explain and promote Visyon’s services and raise awareness to support young people’s mental health. You will also be required to deliver workshops within the local community. One of the objectives of this work is to reach and promote our service to under-represented groups, including younger males.
Visyon places a high value on governance and accountability. We work with numerous issues and cases, so risk management and safeguarding are essential parts of our work. The ability to support and manage client risk and know when referrals should be made onto other agencies is essential within this role.
Working with Visyon requires flexibility, strong communication, organisational skills and working effectively with children and young people, and others who support them.

When completing your application form, please detail all relevant experience, in particular your experience of face to face counselling with 11 to 18 year olds. We are looking for at least 100 hours post qualification counselling experience with this age range.
