Health & Safety Officer
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum

About The Role
An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a successful food manufacturing business.
Reporting directly into the Operations Director, you will take responsibility for managing the site’s Health & Safety activities, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, company procedures and industry best practice.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operational teams, improving safety standards and developing a positive Health & Safety culture across a busy manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the site Health & Safety function, ensuring legal compliance and company standards are maintained.
- Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees on Health & Safety matters, risk management and safe working practices.
- Create, review and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures and operational controls.
- Complete risk assessments, COSHH assessments and regular workplace safety inspections.
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying improvements and corrective actions.
- Deliver Health & Safety inductions, toolbox talks and ongoing training sessions.
- Manage statutory checks and inspections, including lifting equipment, fire safety equipment, forklift trucks and workplace facilities.
- Maintain emergency procedures, safety records and incident reporting systems.
- Monitor Health & Safety performance through KPI reporting and support regular safety meetings.
- Assist with internal and external audits while working collaboratively with Operations, HR and Technical teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the business.
About The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
- Previous experience working within Health & Safety, ideally within food manufacturing, manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience carrying out risk assessments, investigations, audits and workplace inspections.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage reporting and documentation effectively.
- Good IT skills and experience producing Health & Safety reports.
Desirable Experience:
- NEBOSH Diploma.
- IOSH Membership.
- Food manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of current Occupational Health & Safety practices.
Additional Information
- Permanent, full-time position.
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
- Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience.
