CREATED is seeking an ambitious and experienced Assistant Headteacher for SEND and Specialist Provision to support leadership across CREATED Academy School and CREATED College.
This is a key leadership role combining SENCO responsibility with wider provision development across two specialist SEND/AP sites. The successful candidate will help strengthen SEND systems, support curriculum and learner progress, contribute to safeguarding and quality assurance, and help develop the growing post-16 offer at CREATED College.
This could be the perfect role for an existing SENCO who is ready to step into a broader leadership position, or an Assistant Headteacher who wants to enhance their SEND/AP experience in a smaller specialist setting where they can have genuine influence across the whole provision.
You will work closely with senior leadership to make sure both sites are safe, well-organised, ambitious and genuinely effective for learners with SEND, SEMH needs and complex barriers to education.
What makes this role different
This is not a large-school leadership post where your work disappears into layers of meetings and subcommittees. In a smaller specialist setting, your decisions will have visible impact.
You will be close enough to the work to shape it properly, support staff directly and see the difference your leadership makes. The role needs someone who understands that SEND leadership is not just paperwork, and leadership is not just having a more senior email signature. It is about building systems that actually help staff, learners and families.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop SEND provision across CREATED Academy School and CREATED College.
- Act as SENCO or strategic SEND lead, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Support EHCP oversight, annual reviews, provision mapping and learner profiles.
- Help develop curriculum, teaching, learning and learner progress systems.
- Support safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and pastoral systems.
- Work with staff to improve adaptive teaching and learner support.
- Support the development of CREATED College as a post-16 SEND provision.
- Liaise with parents, carers, commissioners, local authorities and external agencies.
- Contribute to quality assurance, compliance and improvement planning.
- Help create a culture of high expectations, strong relationships and practical support.
Essential experience
- Strong experience working with SEND learners.
- Experience as a SENCO, SEND lead, Assistant Headteacher, curriculum lead, pastoral lead or middle/senior leader.
- Good understanding of EHCPs, annual reviews, provision mapping and SEND processes.
- Experience in alternative provision, specialist education, SEMH, post-16 provision or a closely related setting.
- Confidence supporting safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and learner progress.
- Ability to lead staff, strengthen systems and communicate clearly with families and professionals.
Desirable experience
- National Award for SEN Coordination or NPQ for SENCO.
- Teaching qualification.
- Experience in post-16 SEND or vocational pathways.
- Experience working with local authorities, commissioners or external agencies.
- DSL or safeguarding leadership experience.
- Experience developing curriculum or quality assurance systems.

Pay: £34,000.00-£46,000.00 per year
