Salary: Dependent on experience

Hours: 4 meetings per year, plus preparation and follow-up work

Duration: Five-year term

Location: Meetings are held in person in Poole, Dorset

The Lewis Workplace Pension Trust is seeking an experienced and independent Chair Trustee to lead its Board through an important period of change. Established in 2013, the Trust provides workplace pension arrangements for employers and their employees, with a continued focus on value for money, strong governance and good member outcomes.

As Chair Trustee, you will provide leadership to the Trustee Board, help set the tone for effective governance and ensure the Scheme continues to meet high standards of oversight, decision-making and member protection. This includes supporting an effective system of governance in line with The Pensions Regulator’s General Code of Practice, with appropriate focus on risk management, internal controls, assurance, administration standards and constructive challenge.

You will chair Board meetings, ensure discussions are well planned and properly documented, and encourage balanced debate and collective decision-making. You will work closely with fellow trustees, the Scheme Sponsor, advisers and administrators, bringing sound judgement and strategic oversight as the Scheme responds to changing regulatory and operational expectations.

We are looking for someone with experience of chairing boards, committees or senior governance forums, together with the independence, judgement and confidence to lead effectively. Experience in pensions, legal, accounting, internal audit, risk management, governance, investment oversight or pension administration would be particularly valuable. The successful candidate will also understand, or be willing to develop, the trustee knowledge and understanding required to oversee a workplace pension scheme effectively.

The Chair will be supported through a thorough induction and ongoing training, including familiarisation with the Scheme’s governing documents, relevant pensions legislation, The Pensions Regulator’s guidance and recognised industry standards. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the governance of the Scheme and to the outcomes delivered for its members.
