Job Summary
Lancing is seeking an experienced Packaging Machinery Engineer to join our engineering team, based at our Thame site and working on customer sites throughout the country.
This is a varied and hands-on role suited to a skilled Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or multi-skilled machinery engineer with strong experience working on packaging, production, and conveyor systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining, fault-finding, and repairing a range of packaging and production machinery, including filling, capping, labelling, conveying, and general production equipment.
The role will involve both workshop/site-based work at our Thame facility and travel to customer premises across the UK. A company vehicle will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
The Packaging Machinery Engineer will be responsible for:
- Servicing, maintaining, repairing, and fault-finding on packaging machinery and associated production equipment.
- Working on filling, capping, labelling, conveying, and general production machinery.
- Attending customer sites throughout the UK to carry out breakdown repairs, planned maintenance, installations, commissioning, and equipment support.
- Working at Lancing’s Thame site on machinery preparation, refurbishment, testing, modification, and general engineering tasks.
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults efficiently and carrying out effective repairs.
- Supporting the installation and commissioning of packaging machinery at customer premises.
- Carrying out preventative maintenance and identifying opportunities to improve machine reliability and performance.
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals where required.
- Liaising professionally with customers, operators, and production teams while on site.
- Providing clear reports on work completed, faults identified, parts required, and recommendations.
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally, and in line with company standards.
- Maintaining tools, equipment, service records, and the company vehicle to a high standard.
- Representing the company in a professional manner when visiting customer sites.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a Service Engineer, Site Engineer, Factory Maintenance Engineer, or similar engineering role.
- Practical experience with packaging machinery, particularly filling, capping, and labelling equipment.
- Familiarity with general production machinery, conveyors, and automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
- Good general engineering knowledge, including motors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics, sensors, guards, conveyors, and machine assemblies.
- The ability to diagnose faults and work independently on customer sites.
- A professional, customer-focused attitude.
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- A flexible approach to travel, as the role involves visiting customer sites throughout the UK.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- Electrical fault-finding experience.
- Experience with PLC-controlled machinery.
- Experience in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, chemical, or FMCG production environments.
- Experience installing or commissioning packaging machinery.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures in manufacturing or customer site environments.

Working Location
The role is based at Lancing’s Thame site, with regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK. Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be comfortable working away from the main site when required.
