We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Principal Clinical Psychologist to join the Older People’s Mental Health Service. The postholder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for older adults experiencing a range of functional mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, complex emotional needs, and challenges associated with physical health, ageing and life transitions. The role requires expertise in developing formulation-driven understandings of the interaction between psychological, social, physical and, where relevant, cognitive factors affecting mental wellbeing in later life. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established Older People’s Psychology Department providing specialist psychological input across the wider service. Working autonomously and within a supportive team, the postholder will provide clinical leadership, consultation and expert psychological care across planned and unplanned care services. The role includes clinical and professional supervision of trainee, assistant and qualified psychologists, supporting workforce development and high-quality practice. Working alongside the Professional Lead, psychology colleagues and wider stakeholders, the postholder will contribute to teaching, service development, quality improvement and service evaluation, helping to embed evidence-based and psychologically informed approaches throughout the older adult care pathway
To ensure the systematic development and provision of highly specialist psychological assessments and treatment within a clinical area/division, by providing strong, effective professional direction, ensuring the delivery of evidence based psychological interventions and practice.
To co-ordinate the planning and organisation of specialist psychological services within the locality area as agreed with the Clinical Lead/Operational Manager
To provide clinical supervision and to offer advice and consultation on service users’ psychological care and risk management to non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers.
To work alongside other teams and agencies providing expert consultancy regarding service provision for people accessing Trust services
To continue to demonstrate advanced psychological skills in practice and the delivery of the highest quality of care in collaboration with service users, carers, staff, managers and other agencies across a number of teams/geographical areas.
To take a lead in contributing/advising the psychological perspective in reviewing, developing and monitoring operational/clinical policy, proposing changes which may impact beyond own area of work
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the relative service area.
