Full job description

Job Summary

As a Student Safety & Inclusion Adviser, your primary responsibility is to support the College in creating a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment where students can achieve their full potential.

Working as part of the Aegis Prevent Team, you will engage positively with students, identify early signs of conflict or vulnerability, support positive behaviour and work collaboratively with college staff to prevent incidents before they occur.

Through positive engagement, early intervention and partnership working, the role helps prevent issues from escalating and supports students to remain engaged in their education.

You will act as a visible, approachable and trusted presence across the campus, promoting respect, wellbeing and inclusion whilst supporting the College's safeguarding responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Student Engagement

Build positive, professional relationships with students across the College.
Provide a visible and approachable presence throughout the campus.
Promote positive behaviour and encourage students to make informed decisions.
Support students through informal conversations and early intervention.
Always act as a positive role model.

2. Behaviour Support

Identify and address low-level behavioural concerns before they escalate.
Use conflict management and restorative approaches to resolve situations.
Encourage compliance with college rules through engagement and communication.
Support College staff during incidents involving disruptive behaviour.
Promote a calm and respectful learning environment.

3. Safeguarding

Remain vigilant to safeguarding concerns affecting young people.
Report safeguarding concerns immediately using College procedures.
Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Student Services.
Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Complete all mandatory safeguarding and Prevent training.
Work in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

4. Student Welfare

Provide reassurance and support to students experiencing difficulties.
Identify vulnerable students who may require additional support.
Signpost students to appropriate College services where required.
Assist in creating an inclusive environment where every student feels safe and respected.
Promote student wellbeing throughout the College.

5. Partnership Working

Work collaboratively with Safeguarding, Student Services, Curriculum Teams, Estates and the Campus Protect Team.
Attend operational meetings and briefings.
Support College events, enrolment and open evenings.
Develop positive working relationships with staff, parents and partner agencies where appropriate.

6. Incident Reporting

Record interactions, interventions and incidents accurately using College reporting systems.
Provide clear information to assist safeguarding investigations where required.
Escalate concerns promptly to the appropriate member of staff.
Maintain accurate records in accordance with college procedures.

7. Customer Service

Deliver an excellent service to students, staff and visitors.
Promote an inclusive and welcoming College environment.
Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
Represent both Aegis Support Services and the College in a professional manner.

8. Health, Safety & Compliance

Promote compliance with all College policies and procedures.
Report hazards, defects and maintenance issues promptly.
Participate in emergency drills and business continuity exercises.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, fire safety procedures and Aegis Assignment Instructions.

9. Digital Reporting & Performance

Use Aegis digital reporting systems to accurately record incidents, patrols, welfare interactions and operational activity.
Utilise patrol verification technology and other agreed digital systems to demonstrate service delivery and compliance.
Contribute to contract KPI reporting through accurate and timely data capture.
Produce high-quality operational reports that support safeguarding, continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
Ensure all electronic records are completed accurately and in accordance with College and Aegis procedures.

Experience

Previous experience working with young people within education, youth work, mentoring, community support, policing, probation, social care or similar environments is desirable but not essential.

Certification

No SIA Licence is required.

Successful candidates must be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List check.

Successful candidates will be required to:

Complete Aegis pre-employment screening.
Obtain and maintain an Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List check.

Additional Information

This is a term-time only role.
Hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Pay: £14.00 per hour
